A Queensland mother got the fright of her life when she stepped on a scorpion while on her way to the fridge to grab a piece of chocolate.

Mel Nolan, 36, took to social media to share her shock and disgust at the creepy crawly that had invaded her kitchen.

‘A scorpion in my house,’ she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

‘And I accidentally stepped on it… ewwwwww omg I might die.’

The young mother managed to trap the scorpion using a takeaway tray.

‘Then bam squashed it with a thong. Yep a thong… It is Australia after all,’ she told The Queensland Times.

Although the creature caused quite a stir, Professor Glenn King from the University of Queensland’s Institute Molecular Bioscience said scorpions are common.

He said a sting or bite from one would not have killed Ms Nolan, but it might have left her sore.

‘None of the Australian scorpions are harmful,’ Professor King said.
