Rupert Murdoch hospitalized with back injury

  • The accident happened around New Year’s Day but has just been reported
  • Murdoch had to be airlifted to hospital, according to sources cited by Vanity Fair
  • He sent an email to senior 21st Century Fox staff last week confirming it
  • He was only recently released from hospital and is now working from home

Rupert Murdoch was hospitalized earlier this month after injuring his back on his son Lachlan’s boat while vacationing in the Caribbean, it has been revealed.

The 86-year-old revealed the accident in an email to his senior management team last week in which he explained why he would be working from home.

On Wednesday, Vanity Fair cited multiple sources which confirmed the accident.

They said Murdoch had to be airlifted off the vessel to be taken to hospital and that he was only recently released.

A 21st Century Fox spokesman did not immediately respond to requests on Wednesday afternoon.

Murdoch is in the midst of two titanic media deals. The first is a $52 billion sale of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets to Disney, and the second is his stalled $15billion Sky takeover.

The latter is being poured over by British industry watchdogs.
