Blind Date contestant stood up for first time in 20 years

A Blind Date singleton was left heartbroken after becoming the first contestant to be stood up on the show in 20 years.

Conor Ellison, 25, became the first person to be spurned on the show since 1997 when stunning City worker Rosie Allen, 27, pulled out at the last minute.

Dejected Mr Ellison was initially ecstatic having matched his stunning brunette date on the Channel 5 show, hosted by Paul O’Grady.

He described her as ‘absolutely beautiful’ and she said he was ‘very cute’.

But things took a turn for the worst when it was revealed that rather than jetting off to a paradise destination – much like the contestants in the previous incarnation of the show, hosted by Cilla Black – the pair would instead be enjoying a mountain biking holiday in Wales.

Unimpressed, it appears as if the thought of muddy fields and the harsh Welsh weather put the businesswoman off her date.

After the big reveal, Miss Allen said: ‘Are you serious? Can we get another envelope, please?’

While Mr Ellison added: ‘I’ve been stitched up here.’

And it appears the City worker, who appeared on the show in a figure hugging red dress, was not to be swayed leaving her unsuspecting date in the lurch.

Seemingly left alone on his big day, host O’Grady stepped and sent another girl in her place.

Mr Ellison didn’t have the best time however though, explaining: ‘Truthfully, Wales was s***. The weather was horrendous.’

But he was more accommodating about his would-be date, adding: ‘There’s no hard feelings. If she couldn’t make it, she couldn’t make it.’

This is the first time a date has been stood up on the show since 1997. Although in those days the dates were far more glamorous, with contestants jetting off to exotic climes such as Nepal and the Bahamas.

The last time it happened, contestant David Smith flew all the way to Nepal with the film crew only for his date Charlotte Harrison not to show.

But the singleton still enjoyed his stay and later said Cilla had been ‘lovely’ to him.
