Tanya Carlson flew home to Tucson, Arizona from Chicago over Christmas to give her family the exciting news.
She expected her ‘very expressive’ mum, Hope, to have a great reaction and asked her cousin Gayle to film the moment.

But Hope’s delighted reception to the news was even more than expected as she repeatedly shook her hands up and down and asked her partner, Pat, if her daughter was ‘kidding’ her.
At first, the beloved grandmother thought her daughter was playing a ‘cruel prank on her’.
Tanya’s grandmother Eugenia, sister Kathy and step dad Pat were also in the room as she suddenly revealed she was having a baby.
The mum-to-be asked her family to gather around for a photo but instead of shouting the usual ‘say cheese’, Tanya instead announced she was pregnant.

Hope was first to react by letting out a startling stream of: ‘Wait, what? No. You’re such an a******.’
She added: ‘I looked at you and I knew it. I said you were pregnant but you said no I’m not mum.’
Tanya then declares that she is 13 weeks pregnant to which her sister says ‘Congratulations’ and offers the soon-to-be mum a hug.
Soon Hope calms down enough to listen to the baby’s heartbeat on Tanya’s phone.

Tanya said: ‘My mum has always been known to have a dramatic flair and is very expressive.
‘I felt that any reaction was going to be good but I didn’t know it would be this amazing.
‘When I first announced I was pregnant there was a split second of confusion, and I’m sure she didn’t know if I was pulling a cruel prank on her.
‘Then her emotions went berserk.
‘I don’t think her brain was able to process what was going on because of the flood of emotions. The news that I am pregnant is one of my mum’s greatest dreams.
‘For the rest of the night she cried out of happiness, ran around the house and called every family member she knew.
‘This is hands down one of the best memories I will have forever.’

Tanya had to work hard to keep the pregnancy from her mum, who she claims has a ‘witch-like sense’ for such things.
She even avoided her mum’s calls to make sure she kept the secret before making her big announcement.
She said: ‘I am the only person in my immediate family who lives in Chicago.. They all live near or in Tucson.
‘I wanted to fly down to Arizona to spend Christmas with them and I knew this would be the perfect time to tell them since it wouldn’t seem as obvious I had an announcement to make.
‘I’m sure they would have been suspicious if I had decided to visit them when it was not a holiday.
Tanya (left) had to work hard to keep the pregnancy from her mum, who she claims has a ‘witch-like sense’ for such things. Hope said: ‘I looked at you and I knew it. I said you were pregnant but you said no I’m not mum’
‘It worked because my mother was clueless. She had been harassing me for over five years to produce grandchildren for her, and it was such a challenge to keep it a secret from her for 13 weeks.
‘She has this witch-like sense, so I had to be so careful whenever I spoke to her on the phone not to blow my cover. I actually avoided her calls out of fear I’d accidentally reveal I was pregnant.
‘I was beyond excited to announce the pregnancy to her and the rest of my family.’

Tanya is expecting her baby in June, and is waiting until its birth to find out the gender.
