Vienna’s Musikverein building was transformed into a sea of white as glamorous guests attended a dazzling evening of music and dancing. 

The Vienna Philharmonic Ball offers a chance for music lovers to don their finery and dance the night away to live music in the opulent ballroom setting. 

Now in its 77th year, the grand hall located on Bösendorferstrasse plays host to glamorous guests as the packed audience watched as Spanish conductor Plácido Domingo led the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. 

The night’s entertainment was also provided courtesy of Großes Ballorchester, Prof. Helmut Steubl, Tom Henkes Dance Band and Divertimento Viennese according to the event’s website.

The first Vienna Philharmonic Ball was held in 1924, and set the precedent for the show-stopping event which the ball committee has maintained to this day, with organisers charging €180 (£156) a ticket.

The ball was held annually from 1924 to 1931 until a hiatus from 1932-1948. It then started again in 1949 and became a permanent highlight of the season’s festivities.
