Dead red-bellied black snake stuck in Red Bull can

People searching for a lost kitten came across a grisly discovery near a Queensland petrol station.

Barnyard Betty’s Rescue, a Brisbane Valley based sanctuary for orphaned, mistreated and unwanted farm animals, has expressed its heartbreak and horror after it came across a dead red-bellied black snake caught in a Red Bull can on Wednesday.

The group posted the disturbing photos in an emotional plea for people to stop littering.

People searching for a lost kitten came across this grisly discovery near a Queensland petrol station.

‘While having a look around at the back of the petrol station this morning where the lost kitty is that I’ve been trying to catch, the daylight revealed this heartbreaking horror,’ Barnyard Betty’s Rescue posted on its Facebook page on Thursday.

‘I was shattered, absolutely shattered and so ashamed to be a human right then and there. My heart screamed in pain for this beautiful being as I imagined how much he suffered in his long slow death. A death caused by human indifference & laziness. It’s not right.’

‘It was like a rubbish dump back there and although I wasn’t surprised yet again by humans’ tragic impact on the environment I was still gobsmacked by the sheer amount of rubbish,’ the group posted.

‘There are plenty of bins located throughout the petrol station so this just shouldn’t happen.’

‘Not only does it endanger the wildlife but there are also cows living in there and I’ve known cows to eat litter. I once chased a cow trying to eat a bread wrapper!

‘Put your litter in the bin or take it home with you!

‘The simple careless act of dropping your rubbish is a death sentence for animals.’

The sanctuary described the scene at the petrol station as a rubbish dump and warned other wildlife could fall victim

The group plans to return to the scene to clean up the litter and speak to the petrol station owner about the possibility of putting up signs.

‘I almost wish that along with the health warnings on products we could put warnings about the packaging as well! With photos of the animals that have perished!’

The group hopes the snake’s death won’t be in vain.

‘If it makes even just one person think twice about dropping their litter then I’m a happy girl,’ it posted on Thursday.
