Haute Couture is French for ‘high fashion’. It is the creation of exclusive clothing tailored specifically to the wearers body, constructed by hand from start to finish.
Spring/Summer 2018 Haute Couture Fashion Week wrapped up yesterday in Paris, France. Couture is meant to serve as inspiration and fantasy, and because of this, we know we’re bound to see some ‘who would wear that?’ garments on the catwalk.
FEMAIL rounds up some of the most shocking (and hilarious!) looks seen this week. Enjoy!
Do you accept this rose: Viktor & Rolf’s served up a pretty collection made entirely of technical duchesse satin
Statement piece: While using only one fabric to create an entire line is impressive, it’s the botanical headdresses that had us in awe
Extra extra: ‘I like that it’s a little anarchic but with the codes of couture,’ French designer Alexandre Vauthier told Vogue about his collection
Bigger is better

Everything was a little extra at Alexandre Vauthier. Shoulders were extra-puffy, bandeau tops extra-sheer; and bows (as seen above) were extra-large.
The drama Elie Saab Haute Couture lost in the subtlety of it’s subdued color palette of champagne, rose, lavender and dusty blue, the Lebanese designer made up for with enormous bow collars.
Giambattista Valli’s lime green high-low tulle dress (below) is not for the faint of heart.

Several designers sent models down the runways with their faces (to varying degrees) covered up.
Iris Van Herpen’s 3-D printed illusion fabric innovations were works of art that extended from head to toe, literally!
AF Vandevorst accessorized one look with a medical mask, and another with a scarf wrapped around the model’s entire face.

Carry the weight on your shoulders
Forget the cold-shoulder, at Haute Couture spring/summer 2018 Fashion Week, it was all about statement shoulders.
Zuhair Murad sent a model down the catwalk in a beautiful white dress embellished with feather sleeves.
Very large ruffled shoulders were a part of the Viktor & Rolf Haute Couture collection and the Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture show.
Kaia Gerber walked the runway at Chanel Haute Couture in a pink dress featuring sizable shoulders accented by feathers.
