Celebrity Big Brother: Dapper Laughs PROPOSES live on air

He may have become the eighth housemate to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house, but he definitely made sure to go out on a high.

And shocking the studio audience and viewers at home, Dapper Laughs unexpectedly PROPOSED live on air to his girlfriend Shelley Rae, during his eviction interview with host Emma Willis on Friday night.

The disgraced comedian, real name Daniel O’Reilly, 33, got down on one knee mid-interview and asked his long-term love to marry him – prompting her to break down in tears, before accepting his proposal.

Say yes! Dapper Laughs unexpectedly PROPOSED live on air to his girlfriend Shelley Rae, during his Celebrity Big Brother eviction interview with host Emma Willis on Friday night

Dapper had been recalling his experience of living in the Celebrity Big Brother house and confessed that he’d had a lot of time to think while starring on the Channel 5 reality series.

Turning to his girlfriend, he said: ‘Do you know what, when I was in the house, every day I regretted I didn’t ask you… so will you marry me?’

He then presented Shelley with a make-shift ring, as she broke down in tears at the romantic gesture.

Revealing he had been planning on popping the question while waiting for a response, Dapper said: ‘Is that a yes? Sorry about the ring, Ginuwine made it for me, but we’ll trade it in for a better one.’

Taken aback by the scenes unfolding in front of her, a shocked Emma quipped: ‘You shot that ring on before she could say no,’ to Dapper, as they resumed their post-eviction chat.

Insisting that he will still go about his proposal in the traditional way (or as close to it as he could), Dapper claimed he would ‘double check’ with Shelley’s dad that he was OK with him asking her to marry him.

Ever the comedian, he then couldn’t resist joking: ‘Is the ring all right? You won’t need another on as well.’

The star and Shelley have been dating for three years and welcomed their first child together, daughter Neve, now one, in December 2016 – her arrival came after Shelley voiced her fears the couple wouldn’t be able to have children, after being told by doctors she would struggle to conceive.

Chatting with Emma, Dapper said that he hopes he has show a different side to him while on the show – after entering with a tarnished reputation, as he fell from grace spectacularly when he made a joke about an audience member at a stand-up gig ‘gagging for a rape’ while also being accused of misogyny.

Determined to clean up his act, he said: ‘People have explained why I was a d***. I was a mess, an emotional wreck, when I went in there… this experience has untagled a lot of mess for me.’

Adding that he felt ‘conscious’ while in the house and felt the need to ‘self-edit’, Dapper claimed: ‘It’s been a good experience for me, I’m keen to get out there and with more intelligent humour.’

Although he did quickly add: ‘I still like a naughty joke…’

Shelley, meanwhile, made sure to stand by Daniel, despite his fall from grace, and had been championing the star ahead of his eviction. In an interview with The Sun, she insisted Dapper is a ‘hands-on father’ and is actually a ‘sensitive man’ with ‘no malice’.

‘He’s amazing. He absolutely adores children. He’s so good with Neve, he’s so hands on,’ she gushed.

‘He is a likeable guy, he is lovely, he is sensitive, he is caring and he is passionate and that’s who he is. Dan would never upset anyone intentionally. There’s no malice in him whatsoever.’

Dapper became the eighth celebrity to be evicted from the CBB house, as he left shortly after Jonny Mitchell and Andrew Brady in a dramatic triple eviction – that also saw intruders once again break into the CBB house.

As Dapper was evicted, it was heard that the intruders had managed to get into the garden, but Emma made sure to assure viewers that the housemates were fine and the intruders hadn’t made it inside the actual compound.

Andrew was first to leave in the triple eviction and was seen punching the air in triumph, despite exiting to a mixture of boos and cheers. Discussing being evicted, Andrew told host Emma Willis: ‘It feels epic. To be part of such a fantastic series. It’s weird because those three weeks feel like three months.’

Andrew also touched on his close friendship with Shane Jenek, whose alter-ego is drag act Courtney Act – who had also been up for eviction, but was saved by the public.

He said: ‘When I first met her I thought this girl’s fit. Genuinely Courtney has the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. Shane is an unbelievable person.

‘I have so much admiration for him and we should all be listening to his message instead of someone like Ann’s.’

Asked if there were ever moments when he fancied Courtney, he said laughing: ‘No. I know I would have had to unstrap his penis from his bum. It’s not a jigsaw that fits together.’

He also admitted he was ‘out of order’ after he called 70-year-old Ann Widdecombe an ‘old c***’ during a shocking expletive-ridden rant on Thursday night.

He was left seething after the former MP claimed his mother and grandmother would disapprove of his antics with Shane Jenek in the house.

He dubbed her ‘evil’ and a ‘stuck-up b***h’ after she nominated him.

Discussing his remarks, he said sheepishly: ‘That was out of order. I’ll hold my hands up.’Explaining why he got so riled up, he added: ‘To me anyone can say anything to me personally but when you take our loved ones into it.

‘But I was already thinking I wonder what my mum and dad think about me and she throws that around.’

Emma then turned to Andrew’s mum, asking her what she thought of his expletive-ridden rant.

She said diplomatically: ‘I think it was a very unfortunate use of that word and I won’t condone that word at all but I can see how it happened.

She added: ‘We are really proud of him, he’s been fantastic on the show.

‘The thing is, he was a lad who was from Sheffield, who has never done this until The Apprentice. He’s had no experience at all with any of this. I think he’s done fantastic to last three weeks.’

Jonny was the next one to depart the house, becoming the seventh celebrity to be evicted this series.

Asked by Emma if he was always playing it safe during his time in the house, Jonny said: ‘I think you could say anyone was playing it safe. Everyone plays it differently in that place. You’re onto me.

‘Ok sometimes, I wouldn’t have joined in things in the communal area because I know it would annoy people.

‘If you wanna call that playing it safe, then that’s that. I’m not going to do things in front of Ann [Widdecombe] that I would do in front of Andrew.

‘Respect for one’s elders and stuff. And some people like Wayne [Sleep] wouldn’t say if things annoyed him but they would [annoy him] and affect him … I felt my way through it.’

Opinionated: Jonny also defended Ann's controversial views, saying she's a 'straight shooter' and he 'respects' her

‘It’s just a straight shooter, I respect her for it. She’s a human being she gets offended by some stuff.’ He added that he would like Dapper Laughs to win, and failing that would like Ann to take the CBB crown.

When asked by Emma if there’s more to Jess Impiazzi than meets the eye, Jonny said: ‘She is very intelligent deep down. She comes up with things every now and then and you’re like what the f**k is she on about. And then later it actually comes out that it’s true and everyone is like OK, fair play.’
