Sushi pulled from Waitrose and Sainsbury’s over glass fear

Sushi lovers buying from Waitrose and Sainsbury’s were warned today that their favourite treats may hide shards of glass which could rip people’s mouths and throats.

Sushi Daily, who have a franchise to run the Japanese nibbles stalls in many Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores and at airports, is recalling jars of its ginger sushi, known as Sushigari, because they may contain hidden fragments of glass.

The presence of glass makes this product unsafe to eat and presents a safety risk, said the firm, founded in 2010 and now operating 600 sushi kiosks in Britain and across Europe under the Sushi Daily brand name.

Customers have been asked to return affected jars of Sushigari, pictured, with a best before date of June 2, 2018 and a batch number 18081 to receive a full refund

Customers have been warned the affected jars may be contaminated by glass. Both Waitrose, pictured, and Sainsbury's stock the product and are offering consumers full refunds
