Transfer News LIVE: Latest Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd…

16:48

Chelsea have announced Olivier Giroud!

There’s the confirmation we’ve been waiting for… in that big triangle of deals including Aubameyang, Batshuayi and Giroud, the latter has joined Chelsea.

Here is what the new man had to say: ‘Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It’s a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I’m looking forward to playing.’

16:48

Some words from Arsenal’s new man

The biggest move of the day is that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal, and the Gunners’ new No 14 has been praising the former wearer of that shirt…

Here he is on Thierry Henry…

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s words on Henry…

16:45

Badou’s been a busy boy!

This just in from Sportsmail reporter Joe Bernstein…

‘Stoke’s new signing Badou N’Diaye started the day in England on a temporary visa, flew back to France to go through the official work permit procedure and the good news for manager Paul Lambert is he is now heading back to England.

‘It suggests the work permit issues are all sorted and he is expected to be at the Bet365 Stadium this evening to watch his team-mates face Watford. Stoke agreed a fee of just over £14million with Galatasary for the 27-year-old Senegal international midfielder earlier in the week.’

Badou N’Diaye agreed a fee for N’Diaye earlier this week and looks to have sorted his visa issues

16:42

Might Palace have themselves a goalkeeper?

A little bit of Crystal Palace news for those of you waiting for news in south London. Potentially three incomings tonight as the club work on a goalkeeper, midfielder and a striker.

The potential purchase of Getafe keeper Vicente Guaita is one that has been rumbling on all month, but we could now finally have some movement – and it’s good news for the Eagles.

Reports in Portugal state that Getafe have agreed a deal to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya, therefore freeing up Guaita to move to England.

He’s had his medical at Palace and agreed personal terms, so that should be relatively quick to go through once Steve Parish and Co get the go-ahead.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita could be on his way to Crystal Palace…

16:38

We love a good signing video…

Not a move that is going to get people out of their seats this side of the channel (no offence to Braga or Diogo Figueira)… but we all enjoy a decent announcement.

The Portuguese club accompanied their video with this message: ‘Forget “Netflix and chill” and grab the popcorn: This new reinforcement has titles, goals and assists to leave us “glued” to the screen.’

16:35

Who’s going to grab Grabban?

Some news that might interest Bournemouth, Villa and Cardiff fans from Riath Al-Samarrai…

‘Not the biggest news or saga of the window but I’m told Aston Villa are now favourites to get Lewis Grabban from Bournemouth. Cardiff interested.’

16:33

It’s been a quiet day at Manchester United…

…but we do have an outgoing at Old Trafford! Matty Willock has returned from FC Utrecht, and been sent straight back out again a little bit closer to home.

16:30

Giroud with a Chelsea shirt! The pics are in…

We know this one is all done and dusted, we’re just waiting for an announcement… and now a picture is doing the rounds on Twitter of Olivier Giroud with a Chelsea shirt.

Again, no official confirmation from either club yet – but it’s due very shortly!

This picture is doing the rounds on Twitter…

16:29

Let’s head north of the border…

Veteran goalkeeper Cammy Bell – once a Scotland international – has been released by Kilmarnock following a second spell at the club.

That’s one that may upset a fair few sentimental fans – he has been a big part of their recent history.

16:24

West Ham closing in on their striker

Some big news coming out of West Ham in the last few minutes, courtesy of our reporter Simon Jones. They need a striker, and it looks as though they may be getting one…

‘WEST HAM are closing on the £8million transfer of Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill.

‘The 25-year-old is on his way to London for talks with David Moyes and a medical ahead of completing his move.

‘Hugill also had interest from Crystal Palace, Reading and Leeds United.’

West Ham look set to steal Jordan Hugill from under the noses of their top flight rivals

16:22

Brighton in for Powell – but it looks unlikely

The south-coast side may be in action tonight, but that hasn’t stopped manager Chris Hughton trying to get some business done away from the pitch.

Joe Bernstein has been in touch with an update…

‘Brighton’s second bid for Nick Powell was just over £5million. Wigan say they want £15m. In other words, too great a gap for any business to be done today.’

16:19

What’s the money saying so far…? This is really interesting…

NICK HARRIS: With the Giroud deal to Chelsea from Arsenal complete, the total spend is ticking ever upwards. Here is how our net spend table for completed deals looked at 4pm.

Man City still on top, naturally. And incidentally, if Pep Guardiola can get the Mahrez deal over the line, he will become only the second person in global football history to spend £1bn+ on transfers in a management career.

Jose Mourinho was the first and only person to date and he ticked past the £1bn when he signed Lukaku last summer, in his 17th year as a manager. Pep is in his 10th.

16:16

A move fit for a King

We know about one likely outgoing at Leicester in the form of Islam Slimani, but it looks as though there may be another exit at the King Power…

Riath Al-Samarrai – our man in the know in south Wales – says: ‘Talks are ongoing between Swansea and Leicester over a loan deal for Andy King. The Welsh club are hopeful of getting him until the end of the season.’

Andy King trains with Leicester last week – but he could leave on loan this evening

16:13

Done deal at Watford… but will he be a *Success*? (Get it?)

16:11

Some interesting news on Slimani

This just in from Craig Hope in the North East…

‘I’m told the thigh injury picked up by Islam Slimani this week is not as serious as first reported and there is an outside chance he could make the Newcastle bench at Crystal Palace this weekend, although the home match versus Man Utd a week Sunday is more likely. Slimani is set to complete his loan move from Leicester in the coming hours.’

Islam Slimani is set to join Newcastle on loan from Leicester despite thigh injury

16:08

Let’s head straight to France…

Joe Bernstein brings us some news about a former Crystal Palace wonderkid…

‘Remember John Bostock? The Crystal Palace wonderkid, who moved to Spurs as a teenager in a blaze of publicity, is still only 26 and been involved in deadline day.

‘He is going to sign for Turkish club Bursaspor from Lens in France.’

16:06

Afternoon all!

Hello, hello! Yes, as Adam says – Ben Nagle in the hotseat now as we enter the final seven hours of Deadline Day. This is where the madness really begins!

There’s loads going on around the UK, and across the world, with our reporters ready and waiting to bring you the latest news as we get it.

Stick with Sportsmail for every rumour, bit of news and the done deals from now all the way through until midnight and beyond!

Let’s go…

16:00

Time to hand over

That is the end of my stint on our deadline day live blog today. I’m about to hand over the reins with seven hours of the window remaining to Ben Nagle. Enjoy the rest of our coverage.

15:47

Oxford will return to Monchengladbach on loan

Kieran Gill: As I mentioned earlier… Reece Oxford has met with David Moyes today and is set to head back to Germany on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach.

No option to buy at the end of the season, despite the Bundesliga club wanting that.

15:38

Hamilton sign Man United youngster Scott on loan

15:32

Ayew on his way to Swansea to complete £18m move

Sami Mokbel: Andre Ayew is travelling to Swansea ahead of an £18million move from West Ham. Will undergo a medical; personal terms understood to be a formality.

15:26

Sami Mokbel: Olivier Giroud’s move to Chelsea is done.
Medical is completed. Deal is signed. Announcement imminent.

15:23

18 months after they last linked up at Borussia Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are team mates again.

Both players have been signed by Arsenal in this transfer window – Mkhitaryan in a swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez go to Manchester United, while Aubameyang arrived on deadline day for a club record £56m.

On Wednesday, after being officially unveiled as a Gunner, Aubameyang was given a tour of Arsenal’s London Colney training facilities.

Giggs: ‘Bale is not going to leave Real Madrid’

Laurie Whitwell: Ryan Giggs has given a pretty strident view on Gareth Bale’s future. The new Wales manager is insistent Bale will remain at Real Madrid for the foreseeable period.

Manchester United have held a firm interest in Bale for a number of windows but Giggs told Spanish newspaper Marca: ‘Bale has no intention of leaving and Real Madrid won’t sell the player.’

He added: ‘It’s clear that United would’ve been very good for him, but I don’t think that’s an option at the moment, he’s not going to leave Real Madrid.

‘He’s happy at Real Madrid, he wants to stay, there’s no doubt. He knows that the coach and the club respect him and he wants to show the fans what he is capable of.’

15:19

Swansea still optimistic over Ayew signing

Riath Al-Samarrai: The feeling at Swansea is that they will get Ayew from West Ham. Fee of around £20m should be enough to wrap up a three-week pursuit. A loan for Markovic from Liverpool is also still a possibility in the final few hours.

15:12

Chung won’t be heading to Bolton

Joe Bernstein: Lee Chung-Yong’s proposed loan move from Crystal Palace to Bolton very unlikely to happen.

The injury to Sako last night has left Roy Hodgson short of numbers in midfield and attack and he needs all the bodies he can keep at Selhurst Park

15:08

Wigan reject second Brighton bid for Powell

Joe Bernstein: A second Brighton bid for Nick Powell has been rejected by Wigan and so it looks as though the ex-Manchester United forward will be staying with the League One leaders.

It has been a theme of the window that so-called smaller clubs are resisting interest in their players. It has happened with Fulham and Tom Cairney, Oxford and England under-20s international Ryan Ledson.

The first offer for Powell was £3million, not quite half of Wigan’s valuation.

15:05

Millwall seal Marshall loan

15:03

Mahrez performs another Deadline Day vanishing act

Laurie Whitwell: Leicester are unsure of Riyad Mahrez’s whereabouts on deadline day.

The Algerian did not travel with the squad to Merseyside for tonight’s game against Everton and his teammates are none the wiser having checked in to their hotel at Stanley Dock.

It was a similar situation in the final 24 hours of last summer’s window, when Mahrez left his national team training base in Africa to hole up at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris in hope of a last-minute transfer. In response Mahrez was playfully nicknamed Tom Hanks by Leicester players, in a reference to the film The Terminal.

Mahrez is desperate to join up with Pep Guardiola but unless Manchester City raise their bid significantly, the Srivaddhanaprabha family will be unmoved.

15:00

Everton closing in on Mangala loan

Dominic King: Everton are close to securing the signing of Eliaquim Mangala.

Talks have progressed through the day and have almost reached a conclusion.

The deal is an initial loan but Everton will have the potential to make Mangala’s signing permanent in the summer.

14:44

EXCLUSIVE PICTURE: Slimani steps off private jet at Newcastle Airport

Craig Hope: Leicester striker Islam Slimani has landed by private jet in Newcastle ahead of completing a loan move to St James’ Park.

Sportsmail’s exclusive picture shows the Algerian on the tarmac at Newcastle Airport on Wednesday afternoon. He will now undergo a medical before joining the Magpies until the end of the season for a fee of around £2million, plus coverage of his wages.

Rafa Benitez has a longstanding interest in the 29-year-old and the club have been in contact with the Foxes this month.

Leicester had told Premier League rivals making an enquiry that they would only allow Slimani to leave on a permanent basis, with the asking price around £20million.

That stance appears to have softened and, with Slimani wanting to stay in England, he will now join the relegation fight on Tynesude, although a thigh injury means he is unlikely to feature until the end of this month.

West Ham were also interested in Slimani, who joined Leicester for £28m in 2016 but has scored just eight Premier League goals in 18 months.

Benitez was desperate for a new striker and missed out on a loan move for Daniel Sturridge this week, while the club have refused to meet Feyenoord’s asking price of £22m for Nicolai Jorgensen.

14:43

Luton reject £300k bid from Norwich for Famewo

Simon Jones: Luton Town have turned down a £300,000 bid from Championship side Norwich City for talented defender Akin Famewo.

The 19-year-old academy graduate has caught the eye with some impressive performances in League Two and the EFL Cup.

A number of Championship sides have made enquiries as Famewo is 6ft 2ins tall, athletic and can also play at left-back.

Norwich still have a chance of promotion and want to strengthen their defensive options. They have offered £250,000 plus add-ons for the Lewisham-born defender.

14:42

Nasri a free agent after leaving Antalyaspor

Chris Wheeler: Samir Nasri is a free agent following news that his two-year contract at Turkish club Antalyaspor has been torn up just five months after signing from Manchester City.

The 30-year-old Frenchman moved in a £3.2m deal in August after City decided to lower their asking price rather than keep paying Nasri’s £125,000-a-week wages for the remaining two years of his contract at the Etihad. He scored two goals in eight league games but has not played for Antalyaspor since November.

Once the subject of a transfer battle between City and Manchester United when he left Arsenal in 2011, the player knew he had no future under Pep Guardiola after spending last season on loan at Sevilla.

Nasri still has a few good years left in him. Could he possibly return to the Premier League? Clubs could still sign him as a free agent outside the transfer window.

14:38

Oxford sign Chelsea youngster Kane on loan

14:36

Fred will be staying at Shakhtar

Jack Gaughan: Understand that Fred’s staying at Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the season.

They’d been scrambling to line up a replacement today in the outside eventuality of him leaving for Manchester City but Pep Guardiola’s attention is firmly on Riyad Mahrez and that is still bubbling away.

At this stage it doesn’t sound as if that will represent a problem for Pep Guardiola, with the belief being that Fred will join City for around £45million in the summer. Shakhtar officials have twice been over in Manchester discussing a deal.

14:26

MAHREZ LATEST: Man City up their bid to £60m

Manchester City have once again upped their bid for Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, this time to £60m. We await Leicester’s response.

14:17

It’s Forest vs Wednesday for Lolley

Laurie Whitwell: Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday are in a fight to sign Joe Lolley from Huddersfield.

The 25-year-old midfielder is believed to have a choice of destinations having only featured sparingly for David Wagner this season, scoring twice in 10 games.

It is thought Huddersfield would sanction a permanent transfer.

14:09

West Ham enter the race for Preston’s Hugill

Sami Mokbel: Crystal Palace are facing late competition from West Ham for Preston forward Jordan Hugill.

Palace have been desperate to wrap up Hugill’s capture but Sportsmail understands the Hammers have made a late effort to hijack the move.

Madine has scored ten goals in 29 games this season.

Giroud just needs to pass his medical to seal Chelsea move

Simon Jones: Olivier Giroud just needs to pass his medical to complete his move to Chelsea.

The clubs have agreed a fee of around £20million and he has agreed a contract of 18 months with an extra year’s option.

The 31-year-old will also be eligible to play in the Champions League and hopes to state his case for a place in France’s World Cup squad this summer.

Giroud’s signature will trigger the arrival of Michy Batshuayi at Borussia Dortmund.

The Belgium international underwent his medical at the snappily named Knappschaftskrankenhaus clinic.

Latest on Watford’s Okaka

Matt Barlow: Troy Deeney’s failed move to West Bromwich Albion has sparked Watford’s efforts to move Stefano Okaka.

There is still interest from Spain in the Italian who started the season in the team at Watford.

Jack Gaughan: Fleetwood have fielded a six-figure bid from a rival League One club for striker Devante Cole.

Cole, who had attracted interest from Sheffield United in August, has recently triggered a one-year extension to his contract, which was due to run out at the end of the season.

He wasn’t in Uwe Rosler’s squad at the weekend despite being fully fit.

13:02

Leicester in talks with Swansea over King deal

Laurie Whitwell: Leicester are in talks with Swansea about a potential deal for Andy King.

Claude Puel has left the 29-year-old out of recent squads amid interest from a number of clubs including Brighton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

King has become a cult figure at Leicester having won titles in League One, Championship, and Premier League, but his time at the club could be coming to a close.

12:30

Burnley still keen on Forest defender Worrall

Chris Wheeler: Burnley retain an interest in England Under-21 centre-back Joe Worrall even though Nottingham Forest are determined to keep the highly-rated defender.

It’s understood that Burnley value Worrall at £10million and have not given up hope of taking the 21-year-old to Turf Moor before the transfer window closes.

However, a deal seems unlikely with Sean Dyche ready to accept that wingers Aaron Lennon and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou will be the only new arrivals in this window.

Dyche has also inquired about taking Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding on loan, but Arsene Wenger is reluctant to let the 22-year-old leave the Emirates unless he can sign Jonny Evans from West Brom.

Burnley have had to rely on James Tarkowski and Ben Mee in central defence for much of the season, and that is set to continue for the rest of the campaign.

Meanwhile, defender Tom Anderson has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan for the rest of the season after being recalled from a spell at Port Vale.

12:27

More good news for Arsenal fans as Ozil agrees new deal

Sami Mokbel: Mesut Ozil has agreed a new Arsenal contract worth in-excess of £300,000-per week.

The news ends months of speculation regarding the Germany international’s future.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed in December that the Gunners has made one last push to get Ozil to sign.

And their attempts have proved successful, with the German agreeing a deal to become one of the best paid players in the Premier League.

Ozil will sign a three-and-half year deal worth over £300,000-per-week.

SPENDING REPORT: Premier League clubs’ gross spending approaching £340m!

Nick Harris: So, by midday and counting only completed and officially confirmed deals (so not Lucas Moura, yet, though it’s pending), the only significant change from 8am is Arsenal’s confirmed capture of record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Dortmund for a club record £56m.

That deal pushes total PL gross spending towards £340m. In the January net spend table it pushes Arsenal up to … [you know what’s coming] fourth.

12:14

Arsenal have completed the club-record £56million signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund confirmed the news on their Twitter account on Wednesday, before Arsenal then shared a series of pictures of Aubameyang posing in the club’s home kit, pulling a variety of animated poses. He has become the best-paid player in the club’s history on a three-and-a-half-year contract worth £180,000 per week.

The 28-year-old striker is part of a transfer merry-go-round that will see Olivier Giroud leave the Gunners for Chelsea and Michy Batshuayi quit Stamford Bridge to replace Aubameyang at Dortmund.

Swansea rebuffed in efforts to sign £15m Smolov

Simon Jones: Swansea City have been rebuffed in an effort to sign Fyodor Smolov from FC Krasnodar.

The Russia international was the subject of an £11million bid from West Ham in December, but David Moyes had reservations about pushing ahead on the deal this month.

Swansea made their own offer of around £15million but the 27-year-old captain of Russia was reluctant to make the move.

A fluent English speaker, Smolov was keen on a switch to London but is now a target for Zenit St Petersburg.

Swansea are continuing discussions with West Ham for Andre Ayew though Moyes wants to ensure he has enough cover with one transfer target, Leicester’s Islam Slimani, seemingly agreed to Newcastle United.

Martin to decide on Reading loan

Laurie Whitwell: Chris Martin is deciding on a loan move to Reading, who will pick up all the Derby striker’s £25,000 per week wages.

Martin is well down Gary Rowett’s pecking order and a switch to Jaap Stam’s side looks likely.

Rowett is relaxed about incomings but might bring a winger to replace MLS-bound Johnny Russell. That will probably be a loan from the Premier League.

Derby also want a No 2 to first-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson but that may be easier said than done.

Mark Wilson: Hibernian have completed the loan signing of Florian Kamberi from Swiss club Grasshopper until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old striker has been training with the Easter Road side over the last two weeks.
‘It’s a big club for me, a big opportunity and I am very excited to be here,’ said Kamberi.

‘I am a physical striker, I’m not one to stay in the box. I want to go up against defenders and bring players into play.’

11:48

Roma will resume interest in Blind in the summer

Simon Jones: Roma are expected to revive their interest in Manchester United’s Daley Blind in the summer.

The 27-year-old was the subject of a loan bid from the Italians last night but United only wanted a permanent sale and Roma have since switched to Sporting Lisbon’s Jonathan Silva.

Blind’s father Danny said: ‘I can confirm that Roma want Daley but United don’t want to let him go on loan, only on a permanent basis.

He told told LaRoma24: ‘They don’t want to sell him now, only in the summer. Maybe if we had a few days, a week perhaps, but we’ve only got a few hours.’

Roberts makes Leeds United move

Simon Jones: Tyler Roberts has signed for Leeds United from West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth up to £4.5million.

The 19-year-old Wales U21 international was out of contract in the summer but had been offered a new deal by Albion after impressing on loan at Walsall.

Marseille, Rangers and AC Milan were also interested in signing him but the prospect of playing regular football for Leeds was considered the best career move at this stage.

11:44

Palace interested in Stoke defender Cameron

Simon Jones: Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in signing Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron.

The 32-year-old USA international is open to a move away to gain more regular playing time.
Cameron can also play in midfield and at full-back. Stoke may be willing to deal having added Badou Ndiaye to their squad from Galatasary.

Palace have also made a renewed offer fro Lille’s 24-year-old Ibrahim Amadou with an offer of an initial loan with obligation to buy should they stay up.

West Ham have also expressed interest in Amadou.

11:43

Man City will continue their pursuit of Mahrez

Simon Jones: Manchester City are continuing to push for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez who will not play against Everton tonight.

Leicester are upset at the timing of City’s approach which was understood to have been an opening gambit of £45million rising to £55m yesterday.

Mahrez is desperate to leave now for fear of missing an opportunity to join up with Pep Guardiola who has other wing options in mind for the summer also.

11:41

Championship high-fliers Villa on striker hunt

Laurie Whitwell: Aston Villa are working on trying to sign a striker having lost out on Leonardo Ulloa to Brighton.

His contract is up in 2019 so the player’s value is diminishing but Wigan’s prospective new owners want to retain the club’s biggest assets and particularly with their League One season and FA Cup run going so well.

11:06

West Ham would have to pay £40m to prise Cairney from Fulham now

Kieran Gill: Fulham have told West Ham target Tom Cairney that they will revisit his situation in the summer window.

Cairney was naturally interested in a move to the Premier League but his club have turned down the offers, telling those interested they think he is worth up to £40m.

Fulham want him to stay for the rest of the season in their bid to get to the top flight themselves. They’re currently sixth in the Championship.

If they don’t manage to achieve promotion, then they’ll consider letting him leave. So he’s staying put for now… unless West Ham cough up an extraordinary amount of cash for the Fulham skipper.

VIDEO: Batshuayi having his medical at Dortmund

Looks like Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi’s move to Borussia Dortmund is going through.

10:59

Aubameyang had his medical at 8.30am this morning

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had his Arsenal medical at 8.30am this morning apparently. Looks like the pieces are falling into place for the Aubameyang/Giroud/Batshuayi transfer triangle!

West Brom’s business complete for the window

Laurie Whitwell: Sounds like West Brom have done their business for January.

Daniel Sturridge coming in is a huge fillip and Alan Pardew thanked Liverpool for their cooperation after his side’s 3-2 FA Cup win at Anfield.

‘They could have steered him elsewhere but they didn’t,’ said Pardew. ‘The pressure signing a big striker in today’s game puts a lot of stress on a club in terms of finances. This being a loan deal makes life a lot easier for us.’

Pardew said Andre Schurrle is a ‘good player but not coming here’ and gave a similar response to a question about Mathieu Debuchy, who appears set for St Etienne.

Pardew expects Jonny Evans to stay at the club – he has a hamstring problem that may keep him out of tonight’s game at Manchester City – while also insisting Jake Livermore and James McClean, subject of bids from Derby, will not be leaving.

Winger Tyler Roberts, 19, looks set to be the only departure, heading to Leeds in a deal worth £2.5million rising to £4m.

10:50

Ayew poised to complete £18m move to Swansea

Kieran Gill: Andre Ayew to Swansea, £18m, should be done and dusted later. Ayew was at the London Stadium last night but only because all of West Ham’s squad, even those injured, are obligated to turn up on match days.

I saw him wandering around the mixed zone. No goodbyes at the time… but club insiders expect that deal is going to get done by tonight’s deadline.

10:45

Slimani looks like he’s heading to Tyneside

Craig Hope: ‪I’m told from sources close to the player that Islam Slimani to Newcastle United is all but done. It would be a loan, but not sure yet of clauses to buy etc. ‬

Mangala in talks with Everton over loan move

Jack Gaughan: Eliaquim Mangala is now talking to Everton this morning over a loan move away from Manchester City, with the decision on where he goes left up to the player.

Newcastle and West Ham are still interested but that Mangala is in discussions with the Toffees suggests that is his likely destination. That said, he did refuse a switch to Crystal Palace on deadline day last summer.

Meanwhile, City kid Jacob Davenport is looking as if he’s joining Burton Albion on loan – although that’s not yet been completed.

10:44

Bizarre day in prospect for Stoke new boy Ndiaye!

Joe Bernstein: The paperwork for Stoke City’s new signing Badou Ndiaye is 98 per cent done but due to the strange world of employment administration, the Senegal international now has to leave the country in order to get back in with his new documentation.

Ndiaye arrived in England on a temporary visa on Tuesday to complete his medical following a proposed £14.5million move from Galatasaray.

It’s now understood he has been cleared for a work permit but has to go abroad so he can re-enter as a Premier League player rather than as a temporary visitor.

The 27-year-old is now trying to get to Manchester Airport as quickly as possible to fly to Paris and then catch the next flight back from Paris in order to watch Stoke play Watford this evening at the Bet365 Stadium.

10:42

Martin could join Reading on loan

Simon Jones: Derby County striker Chris Martin is in talks over a loan deal to Reading

10:41

Palace set for talks over £10m Sorloth signing

Simon Jones: Crystal Palace are scheduled to hold talks with FC Midtjylland striker Alexander Sorloth in London today ahead of finalising a £10million deal for the Denamrk international. Sorloth left Midtjylland’s training camp this morning.

Palace are also keen on Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill.

10:36

Aubameyang deal draws closer as Batshuayi agrees to Dortmund loan

Sami Mokbel: The Aubameyang/Giroud/Batshuayi dominoes are starting to fall into place.

Chelsea striker Batshuayi has now agreed to join Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.

That allows Arsenal to sign Aubameyang; whose arrival at the Gunners will prompt Giroud’s switch to Chelsea as Batshuayi’s replacement.

10:35

Oxford set for talks over his future

Kieran Gill: Reece Oxford is meeting with David Moyes today to discuss his future. Borussia Monchengladbach want him back on loan.

The German club’s director has been as vocal as West Ham’s chairmen in recent weeks about the youngster. We will have our answer by 5pm at least because that’s when the German transfer window ‘slams shut’.

Oxford came on as a late substitute against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

10:34

Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis have arrived at Arsenal’s training ground as they look to get a club record deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over the line.

The Gunners have had a £55million bid accepted for the Borussia Dortmund striker, but the deal hinges on Chelsea signing Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi filling Aubameyang’s boots at the Bundesliga giants.

Wenger appeared in serious mood as he drove into the club’s London Colney base just hours after the Gunners’ humiliating 3-1 defeat at struggling Swansea.

West Ham will take on Newcastle for Slimani

Simon Jones: West Ham are challenging Newcastle United for Leicester striker Islam slimani. But if anyone does get a deal over the line, they’ll have to wait another two or three weeks before they see him as Slimani has a thigh injury picked up in training this week.

10:23

Anderlecht want to re-sign Newcastle’s Mitrovic

Simon Jones: Anderlecht want to re-sign Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic today.

Should striker-light Newcastle agree, the Belgian club are ready to allow Lukasz Teodorczyk to leave to pave the way. Atalanta have enquired about taking 6ft 1ins Poland international Teodorczyk on loan.

Brighton, WBA, Bordeaux and Hamburg also made enquiries for Mitrovic in window

10:22

Barnsley in the chase for Stokes

Simon Jones: Barnsley are among a clutch of Championship sides to have asked about former Celtic and Sunderland striker Anthony Stokes.

The 29-year-old has left Hibernian by mutual consent despite scoring 11 goals since re-joining the club in August.

Stokes had not been included in Neil Lennon’s squads since the turn of the year and is now a free agent. He scored 44 goals in 92 games over three spells with Hibs as well as scoring 76 in 191 games for Celtic.

10:18

Swansea bid for Dortmund’s Schurrle knocked back

Riath Al-Samarrai: Some more news from Swansea. A source there has confirmed they did have an approach knocked back by Borussia Dortmund for Andre Schurrle, while they are confident of wrapping up the move for West Ham’s Andre Ayew.

They want Markovic on loan from Liverpool but no arrivals are imminent. Interestingly, the win over Arsenal has evidently made them a whole lot more attractive to potential signings overnight.

10:02

No more window shopping for Liverpool

Dominic King: A word on Liverpool’s plans for today: there will not be any major arrivals.

Jurgen Klopp is happy with his squad for the remainder of the campaign and will not be joining the frenzy.

In terms of out goings, Ovie Ejaria, Lazar Markovic and possibly Jon Flanagan are the most likely candidates.

Ben Woodburn, who has been linked with loan moves to Sunderland and Leeds, will be remaining at Anfield.

10:00

Manchester City will have to break their transfer record for the second time in 48 hours to seal a spectacular deadline-day deal for Riyad Mahrez, after having a second bid of £55million rejected.

Leicester’s Algeria winger has put in a transfer request after City, who signed Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £57m on Tuesday, had a surprise bid of £50m rejected later the same day.

Leicester want nearly twice that for Mahrez, who has two-and-a-half years left on his £100,000-a-week contract. Man City returned with a new bid of £55m, but this was rejected on Wednesday morning.

Palace ready to bid £8m for Preston’s Hugill

Kieran Gill: Crystal Palace are sounding confident of signing Preston striker Jordan Hugill for £8m.

After last night’s injury to Bakary Sako, who hobbled through the mixed zone, the Eagles now need a forward even more than before.

Chairman Steve Parish was at the London Stadium last night too while Hugill was left out of Preston’s squad.

09:56

Forest determined to hang on to Worrall despite Burnley interest

Laurie Whitwell: Nottingham Forest are confident of holding onto Joe Worrall amid serious interest from Burnley.

Sean Dyche is a major fan of Forest’s 21-year-old central defender but has already failed with an offer worth £11.5million, made up of £6m plus add-ons.

Forest expect further conversations over Worrall but Aitor Karanka is determined to keep his player past deadline.

Karanka is confident of finalising signings himself, with the Spaniard saying deals are ‘virtually done’.

Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is thought to have agreed a move from Watford and Tony Pulis has sanctioned the departure of midfielder Adlene Guedioura, who was a Forest player in 2012-13.

Iranian international Ashkan Dejagah, the former Fulham winger, is also close to joining Karanka’s squad on a free transfer.

Tottenham warp up the £25m signing of Lucas Moura

Riath Al-Samarrai: Tottenham’s signing of Moura will be wrapped up this morning. Arrived in London yesterday, passed his medical and the announcement of his £25m switch from PSG is all that remains.

09:53

Giroud’s agent flies in as striker closes in on £18m Chelsea move

Sami Mokbel: Olivier Giroud’s agent has arrived in London to finalise the striker’s move to Chelsea.

Arsenal have agreed to sell the France international for just under £18million and the player’s representative is in town to ensure the deal goes through.

09:45

Latest news from La Liga

Pete Jenson: No ins or outs expected at Real Madrid, they have stuck to their ‘we don’t do business in January’ rule, odd considering their season so far.

Barcelona will move out Aleix Vidal if there is a decent offer but that looks increasingly unlikely.

Atletico Madrid will sell Carrasco if a big enough offer comes in but again unlikely so late in the window.

Elsewhere Valencia desperately need a centre-back (Coquelin had to play there at the weekend) will be interesting to see if they step up for Mangala on loan.

And at Espanyol Quique Sanchez Flores will be hoping not to lose Aaron or David Lopez with Everton having shown some interest.

09:42

Celtic’s £375k offer for Carson turned down by Motherwell

Stephen McGowan: Celtic have had an increased offer for Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson turned down.

Brendan Rodgers is in the market for cover for the injured Craig Gordon and issued a 2pm deadline for Motherwell to accept a second bid after an opening gambit of £200k was turned down on Monday.

With 40 per cent of a fee reportedly due to Carson’s former club Hartlepool, the Fir Park club want £750,000. Celtic are looking at releasing keeper Scott Bain from a Hibs loan as an alternative.

The Parkhead club are also awaiting Dundee’s response to a £1m bid in for coveted central defender Jack Hendry.

09:39

Cardiff closing in on £6m Madine signing

Simon Jones: Cardiff City are close to a breakthrough in negotiations for Bolton Wanderers striker Gary Madine.

Cash-strapped Bolton are holding out for £6million from promotion-chasing Cardiff.

Madine has been a key performer for manager Phil Parkinson but Cardiff are willing to double his salary and meet Bolton’s asking price for the 27-year-old.

Bolton are hoping to bring in Chung-Yong Lee from Crystal Palace and have discussed Feyenoord’s Michiel Kramer.

09:37

Stoke working to secure work permit for £14.5m signing Ndiaye

Joe Bernstein: Stoke City are working hard at this very moment to sort out a work permit with The FA and other authorities for Senegal international Badou Ndiaye.

The 27-year-old arrived in England yesterday after Stoke agreed a £14.5million fee with Turkish club Galatasaray and it’s now a race against time to complete the paperwork.

An added layer of complication is because Ndiaye has played just under the required amount of international matches for his country

09:35

Roma fail to reach agreement with Man United over Blind

Simon Jones: Roma have failed to find agreement with Manchester United for Daley Blind and have moved for Sporting Lisbon left-back Jonathan Silva.

The 23-year-old has agreed a five year contract as the clubs discuss a £5million sale. He is lined up to replace Emerson Palmieri who has joined Chelsea.

09:34

Leeds keen on Forest Green teenager Stevens

Laurie Whitwell: Leeds are working on a deal to sign Forest Green Rovers winger Jordan Stevens for £250,000.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough year at the Gloucestershire club, making 15 appearances and scoring once.

Leeds are looking to recruit good young players and Stevens is rated highly among Championship sides.

09:32

Could Afobe be heading back to Wolves?

Chris Wheeler: Wolves appear to be favourites to re-sign Benik Afobe from Bournemouth, two years after the striker left Molineux for the South Coast in the January window.

Watford were interested in signing Afobe, 24, in a £13m deal if Troy Deeney had left Vicarage Road this month, but that now seems unlikely.

Wolves are interested in securing a loan deal for Afobe with the view to a permanent move at the end of the season.

Although the former Arsenal man will be dropping down to the Championship, Wolves are 11 points clear at the top and set to return to the top-flight.

09:31

Chelsea starlet Sterling won’t be heading to Bournemouth

Kieran Gill: Dujon Sterling to Bournemouth is off. It was going to be a loan until the end of the season but Antonio Conte wanted the young Chelsea wing-back to stay.

He’s been training with the first team for weeks now. Highly thought of at Cobham.

09:30

Bartra on his way back to Spain

Spanish defender Marc Bartra is leaving Borussia Dortmund to join Real Betis.

Dortmund said it made a “big concession” on the transfer fee to allow Bartra return to Spain after what has been a tumultuous spell in the Bundesliga.

Bartra was injured in the bomb attack on Dortmund’s team bus before a Champions League game last April. The 27-year-old Spaniard was hit with shrapnel after the blasts shattered a window. He was out for about a month after undergoing surgery on a broken bone in his wrist.

On Monday, Bartra testified at the trial of the man accused of the attack, saying he had feared for his life.

Bartra played 49 competitive games for Dortmund after joining from Barcelona in 2016.

09:19

Newcastle make Slimani their priority… but he’ll cost them £20m

Craig Hope: Newcastle United will make Leicester striker Islam Slimani their deadline-day priority.

The Magpies have a longstanding interest in the 29-year-old and have been in contact with the Foxes this month.

However, Leicester have told any Premier League clubs making an enquiry that they will only allow Slimani to leave on a permanent basis, with the asking price at around £20million.

Monaco were in talks over a loan move and Leicester would have been happy with that arrangement.

But the Algerian wants to stay in England and, if Newcastle do return with a loan offer, it would almost certainly have to include an obligation to buy if they survived.

West Ham are also interested in the player who joined Leicester for £28m in 2016 but has scored just eight Premier League goals in 18 months.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is desperate for a new striker and missed out on a loan move for Daniel Sturridge this week, while the club have refused to meet Feyenoord’s asking price of £22m for Nicolai Jorgensen.

09:17

Will Palace make a move for Tufan?

Laurie Whitwell: Word coming in from Turkey is that Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan is attracting interest from Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old has already won 31 caps for Turkey including three games at Euro 2016, and also has European experience with his club.

Palace need cover to replace the injured Ruben Loftus-Cheek so may prefer a loan to a permanent transfer

09:17

Aubameyang’s Arsenal medical booked in for this morning

Sami Mokbel: His medical is booked for this morning, part of his in-house media duties were completed yesterday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will become an Arsenal player today.

09:14

Will Grabban be on the move?

Riath Al-Samarrai: Told to expect a quiet one at Bournemouth.

If there is any first-team movement it will likely be Lewis Grabban – it is just a case of finding him a club, with Cardiff interested. No bid received, though.

Incomings will depend on someone leaving. For instance, if Benik Afobe goes, but Eddie Howe wants to keep him.

09:01

14 HOURS TO GO

09:01

Surely Newcastle’s best bet is Jorgensen

Craig Hope: After speaking with Rafa Benitez yesterday, I honestly think Newcastle’s best hope of getting a striker in would be to pay Feyenoord’s asking price for Nicolai Jorgensen.

Benitez hinted to us that he believes the Dane IS worth the fee of around £22m. The problem is, Mike Ashley disagrees and, as of yesterday at least, there appeared little chance of that deal being revived.

But Jorgensen was among the manager’s very top targets for this month (unlike Daniel Sturridge, who was a late addition to the list) and he would happily pay the money.

If we arrive at kick-off tonight with new no striker through the door – or edging towards it – then the atmosphere inside St James’ Park could be toxic.

Saying that, the last time fans protested against Ashley and rallied in support of Benitez was on the final day of the relegation season, when they beat Spurs 5-1. So, in a strange way, it could have a galvanising effect.

Meanwhile, other forward options include Leicester’s Islam Slimani, although they have been told he will only leave for a Premier League rival on a permanent basis and not in a loan deal.

Time is running out and, as ever, there is little confidence in Newcastle beating the clock. As Benitez said, the hierarchy have known since January 1 which players he wanted to sign…

08:51

Failure to sign Sturridge only increases pressure on Newcastle to sign striker today

Rob Draper: Some background on Sturridge and Newcastle: there hasn’t been a meltdown between Benitez and Ashley over the failure to get the player.

There is disappointment and frustration but the terms changed when West Brom got involved and there is acceptance that it had suddenly become a very expensive option.

That said, if Newcastle don’t get a striker today, they will look very exposed.

08:45

Newcastle join the pursuit of Slimani

Sami Mokbel: Newcastle have an interest in loaning Leicester striker Islam Slimani.

The forward has a long list of admirers and Newcastle have joined the race.

However, the Magpies – who are working to a strict budget – are only willing to loan Slimani.

08:44

Looks like a quiet day in store at Turf Moor

Jack Gaughan: Looks like we’re set for a pretty quiet day in the North West – other than in a pocket of east Manchester – and bar any shock late moves, it’s unlikely Burnley are doing much business (even though they need a central defender and probably a striker).

The most exciting bit of news for Burnley fans at the moment is either Fredrik Ulvestad or Aiden O’Neill heading out on loan. Ulvestad has interest from Sweden and the transfer window remains open beyond tonight over there. Told you it was exciting!

08:39

It’s likely to be a quiet deadline day at St Andrew’s

Laurie Whitwell: Steve Cotterill is not confident of signing a fresh face to aid Birmingham’s survival fight. Cotterill’s team produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Sunderland 3-1 and there is little finance available following last summer’s splurge.

‘I doubt that there will be anybody coming in through the door unless anything happens last minute,’ he said.

‘We are not going to be all of a sudden going out and spending money on anybody. If anything it will be a last minute loan perhaps, but I don’t anticipate that.’

08:38

Ayew and Yiadom targets as Swansea expect busy deadline day

Riath Al-Samarrai: Could be a busy day at Swansea. I’m told getting Andre Ayew from West Ham remains the top priority. They also like Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom.

If they have serious ambitions of staying up, they need to spend because signing no one would look a lot like giving up.

08:37

Craig Hope: The future of Hartlepool United could hinge on Celtic signing Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

The 29-year-old only left Victoria Park in the summer in a £20,000 deal. Crucially, though, a 40 per cent sell-on clause was included.

Hartlepool need to pay a £48,000 tax bill in the coming days to avoid a winding-up order and they are currently surviving on a day-to-day basis.

But an injury to Celtic keeper Craig Gordon could provide a lifeline with the Scottish champions now targeting Carson. They have seen an offer of £200,000 rejected but have increased that to £375,000.

It is thought Motherwell want closer to £500,000, meaning National League Hartlepool would be due a windfall of £200,000.

That could keep the club alive well into next month and buy time in the search for new investors.

08:33

Simon Jones: Newcastle United have agreed terms with Sparta Prague for the loan of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The 29-year old Slovakian international is due to arrive in the North East this afternoon ahead of his medical once the finer details are signed off.

Newcastle’s forgotten midfielder Jack Colback is considering a move to Nottingham Forest while Rolando Aarons has interest from Hull City and Verona.

08:27

Aarons in talks over Hull loan move

Craig Hope: Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons is in talks with Hull City over a loan move.

Rafa Benitez told the 22-year-old he could leave if the club completed a loan deal for Chelsea wideman Kenedy, which finally went through last week.

Aarons is desperate to play first-team football and would be a smart addition for the Championship strugglers given the promise he has shown in limited appearances for the Magpies.

08:24

SPENDING REPORT: The January deals so far

Nick Harris: And here is a first look at the Premier League spending, in and out, so far this window.

And yes, the record January spending of almost £237m from last year has already been broken, with a full day of trading to go.

The combined spend so far is £283.7m (done deals, officially complete) and the combined income is £235.5m, just shy of last year’s £241m.

I don’t think any of us are reeling in shock to see Manchester City at No 1 in this table having spent £61.2m on Laporte and Jack Harrison combined so far, with perhaps more moves in the pipeline. Pep Guardiola’s spending in 19 months at City alone is thundering towards £500m.

This table is ranked in net spend, because that makes most sense for perspective, we think, and on that basis, it’s not so unusual to see selling specialists Southampton propping it up, with Liverpool just above them (thanks to Countinho to Barca).

One thing to note is we have attributed zero value to either player involved in the Arsenal-Man Utd player swap, because no cash was exchanged. But there is an argument we might legitimately count a spend of around £25m by each club there and an income of the same.

That’s NOT shown in this table but if it were, January spend would already be well through the £300m barrier and income would already be a clear record.

Given the amount of deals in the pipeline today, including multiple transfers that are each going to be worth tens of millions by themselves, we are definitely going to see last year’s January spending obliterated.

08:20

Swansea don’t want Ki included in £18m Ayew deal

Sami Mokbel: Swansea have rejected West Ham’s attempts to include midfielder Ki Seung-yeung in the Welsh club’s move for Andre Ayew.

Swansea have tabled a straight cash deal worth £18m for Ayew.

08:12

Could Townsend replace Mahrez at Leicester?

Sami Mokbel: Leicester have an interest in Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend as a potential replacement for Riyad Mahrez.

Manchester City will attempt to push through a deal for Mahrez today – and Townsend is among the names being considered by Leicester if the Algerian winger leaves.

It remains to be seen whether Palace would even entertain an approach for Townsend, however.

The winger has played a key role in Palace’s revival under Roy Hodgson.

08:11

SPENDING REPORT: January spending over the past eight years

Nick Harris: Good morning from the accounting room deep inside Sportsmail Towers, where a bank of super computers helps us to tally up all in the ins and outs of the Premier League transfer window, financially.

Before we get a first look of the day at the ‘scoreboard’ so far this, here is a summary of spending in January in the past eight windows.

The record spending to be beaten was set last year, January 2017, when the 20 clubs combined spent £236,681,957 on new players and earned £240,662,102 in income. (Yes! They collectively made a profit).

Note: these are NOT speculative figures, these are not guesses, these are not numbers that have any softness to them. These are fact, as released officially by the League when the January window was done last year. And they are a benchmark for what will happen today.

08:08

Arsenal have inadvertently revealed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined the club after they accidentally posting a video confirming his arrival on their own website.

In the age of social media, it’s not uncommon for top-flight clubs to spend a mini-fortune announcing new signings with extravagant videos.

But Arsenal were left humiliated on Tuesday night after they mistakenly uploaded — and hastily deleted — a clip on their website in which Arsene Wenger confirmed the £55m capture of Aubameyang.

Everton target Mangala loan as they seek defensive cover

Dominic King: Everton will be active today and the main focus has become singing Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City on loan.

Sam Allardyce has been anxious to sign a left-footed defender, given that Leighton Baines and Ramiro Funes Mori are injured, and Mangala is an attainable target.

Should Everton, who have confidence of getting the deal over the line, it would be another blow to Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez, who first inquired about signing Mangala last May and has wanted him in this window, too.

There are likely to be some departures from Goodison Park today but it is unlikely Davy Klaassen will be among them.

He has been linked with Napoli but is not keen on moving to Serie A. Lazio had also expressed an interest in the Holland international last week.

07:52

Sunderland complete Ejaria loan and close in on Lonergan

Laurie Whitwell: Sunderland have completed a loan move for Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria and plan to finalise a deal for Leeds goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

Chris Coleman is desperate for reinforcements on deadline day having watched his side slump to a 3-1 defeat at relegation rivals Birmingham on Tuesday night.

The Sunderland manager wants to add a striker, with Swansea’s Ollie McBurnie a potential target, and he expects to be busy working on transfers until the close of the window.

Didier Ndong’s loan move to Watford has freed up some cash to spend on reinforcements and Coleman revealed the deal to Vicarage Road will become a permanent – for around £8million – should certain clauses in the contract be met by the midfielder.

As Ndong’s replacement, Coleman was delighted Sunderland have secured Ejaria for the rest of the campaign. The 20-year-old was a member of England’s Under-20 World Cup winning side last summer and is highly rated at Anfield but Jurgen Klopp sanctioned his temporary departure to aid his development.

‘Ndong has gone to Watford,’ said Coleman. ‘He’s made it clear that he wanted to go back to the Premier League, and the deal suited us in the end.

‘We’ll be bringing one in to replace him – a boy from Liverpool, Ovie Ejaria. He’s coming to us until the end of the season, which I’m very excited about.

‘There’s another one (Lonergan) that’s not quite there yet. There’s a little way still to go, and it’s not over the line. We’ve still got one or two things to do there, but that said, hopefully that will go through in the next 24 hours.

‘On top of that, we still need another face. With a bit of luck, it’ll be a bit of experience, but time will tell. It’s been a brutal transfer window for us, but then if we can get two or three faces before the end, it will have been a good one for us.’

Sunderland have signed Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria on loan for the rest of the season

07:43

MAHREZ INSIGHT: Why Leicester are happy to play hardball

Laurie Whitwell: Manchester City’s late pursuit of Riyad Mahrez should prove the day’s most fascinating transfer story. Leicester have firmly set out their resolve and the club’s owners, the Srivaddhanaprabha family, are not bluffing when insisting the Algerian is worth an enormous price.

Kasper Schmeichel, who has a close relationship with his paymasters, gave an insight into the their approach following Mahrez’s performance at Chelsea, describing them as ’stubborn’ over star players. It is why no elite club has been properly in for Mahrez before now, enquiries have not been entertained.

There has been no fee set internally but it is conceivable it would take £100million for Leicester to countenance a sale.

That is understandable given the late stage of City’s move and the level Mahrez is performing at. He has eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season and is according to Claude Puel a more complete player than when he won the PFA Player of the Year award.

His total in 127 Premier League games is 35 goals and 24 assists. Leicester are using Philippe Coutinho’s £145m Barcelona transfer as a gauge and the Brazilian had 41 goals and 35 assists in 152 Premier League matches for Liverpool.

Mahrez wants to go, of course. He has done since winning the title in 2016 really. He did not turn up for training yesterday and handed in a transfer request in a bid to change Leicester’s stance. It seems highly unlikely he will play against Everton tonight.

But whether that is enough to convince Leicester to sell remains to be seen. It could all be set up for a summer move, when he will have two years left on his £100,000 per week contract.

07:42

Joe Bernstein: Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is prioritising a striker in case Christian Benteke gets injured or needs a rest and is looking at Midtjylland’s Norwegian international Alexander Sorloth and Jordan Hugill of Preston, both valued around £8million.

Palace also need to agree a fee with Getafe in order to sign goalkeeper Vicente Guiata today, though they can get him for nothing in the summer when he becomes a free agent, and retain an interest in bringing in Lille midfielder Ibrahim Amadou.

If they get enough new bodies, injury-hit Eagles will allow South Korean international Chung-Yong Lee to rejoin former club Bolton on loan so he can get game time ahead of the World Cup.

07:30

Simon Jones: Everton forward Sandro Ramirez is set to join Sevilla on loan until the end of the season, subject to a medical.

Sevilla have agreed to pay a £220,000 loan fee for Sandro, with an option to buy at £7.8million.

The 22-year-old forward signed for Everton in the summer from Malaga, where he scored 16 goals in 32 appearances in 2016/17.

Tottenham poised to wrap up £25m Lucas Moura signing

Kieran Gill: Tottenham should be done for the day when they announce their £25m signing of Lucas Moura from PSG later this morning.

He passed his medical yesterday afternoon and is now set to be at Wembley tonight to watch his new team in action against Manchester United.

Spurs aren’t anticipating any other late incomings or outgoings. Decent bit of business to land Moura for that price in my opinion, anyway. He has a lot to prove and can now do it in the Premier League.

Brighton table £3m bid for Wigan star Powell

Joe Bernstein: Brighton have tabled a £3million bid overnight for Wigan Athletic forward Nick Powell, who has scored for 11 times this season and recovered from the injuries that affected his Manchester United career.

However, the unexpected move for 23-year-old Powell is complicated by the fact that League One leaders Wigan are in the middle of a takeover to new Chinese owners who would need to give their blessing.

Seagulls manager Chris Hughton has already signed strikers Jurgen Locadia and Leonardo Ulloa (loan) in January and is prepared to sell Israeli centre-forward Tomer Hemed today. Wigan may ask for Powell to be loaned back to the DW Stadium for the rest of the season in any prospective deal.

Simon Jones: Manchester United defender Daley Blind is a deadline day target for Roma, who are searching for someone to fill the void left by Emerson Palmieri’s move to Chelsea.

The 27-year-old Holland international is a popular figure at Old Trafford but is currently injured after damaging ankle ligaments in training.

Jose Mourinho, the United manager, had played Blind in every competitive domestic and European cup match this season up until last Friday’s FA Cup win over Yeovil Town.

Craig Hope: Rafa Benitez has made an 11th-hour plea to Newcastle owner Mike Ashley to sign the players they need to stay in the Premier League.

The pair spoke over the phone on Tuesday morning – it is only the third time they have done so since last season – as Benitez outlined the last-minute options which are available to them after this week’s failed loan move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, who instead joined West Brom.

Ashley will not pay the £22million Feyenoord want for forward Nicolai Jorgensen – Benitez believes the Dane is worth the asking price – and it has left the manager scrapping around for signings on the final day of the window.

West Ham will have to break their transfer record to sign Islam Slimani from Leicester.

An asking price of more than £30m is being discussed but Leicester are not keen at that price. A loan deal is unlikely at this stage.

David Moyes is a big fan of the Algerian but, at 29, will West Ham’s owners consider such a huge outlay as good business? The current club record buy is Marko Arnautovic at £27m.

A loan deal with a guaranteed big fee at the end of the season ‎is west Ham’s preferred route. Leicester are not so keen.

He has scored eight goals for Leicester since signing from sporting Lisbon. Moyes needs firepower and will argue that an £18m sale of Andre Ayew to Swansea frees up some capital.

There is a long way to go on this deal if it is to happen. The player is believed to be keen on a move to London.

Chelsea were surprised to see Olivier Giroud playing for Arsenal at Swansea last night after a deal had been agreed verbally.

No contracts have yet been exchanged but Chelsea did not expect to Giroud coming on as a sub at Swansea. It was believed he had played his last game in Arsenal colours.

‘It is a problem with these games being played so close to the deadline,’ said one source.

The contracts will be signed this morning and expect Chelsea to release pictures of their new signing by mid afternoon today.

Manchester City and Leicester will resume talks early this morning to try and thrash out a deal for Riyad Mahrez.

Transfer negotiators on both sides retired from detailed talks last night with the player frustrated at the lack of progress.

City are confident they can get the deal across the line, although Leicester’s demands of £90m seem unrealistic.

Mahrez and his agent Kia Joorabchian believe a deal can be struck, although it is likely to late in the day and it isn’t helped that both clubs are in action tonight.

Mahrez is highly unlikely to play for Leicester at Everton. He is determined to get his move away.
