After a fall in front of thousands, a 16-year-old girl’s embarrassment transformed into elation as one of tennis’ biggest stars leaned in to help ease her pain.

Issy Tomkins stumbled on the court as she tried to chase a ball during German heart throb Alexander Zverev’s Davis Cup match on Friday.

Issy’s slip was seen by many, but the moment the tennis star leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek afterwards became headline news around the world.

The Sunshine Coast girl could be seen beaming as 20-year-old Zverev leaned in for a cheeky peck, and swooning as he returned to the court.

Issy looked close to tears as she discussed her very public brush with fame, and was seen giggling and covering her face as she realised the cameras were still on her.   

Newspapers in Germany splashed the youngster’s face across their pages, and video of the adorable moment went viral.

Issy told news.com.au the kiss was ‘nice’ and she was quietly barracking for the world number five to win.

‘I’m mixed because I’m supposed to go for Australia, but I kind of want him to win as well,’ she said. 

The teenager may have been Zverev’s lucky charm, as he went on to beat Australian Alex de Minaur in five sets.
