Cuba beats Mexico and is 2-0 in the Caribbean Series

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) – Raul Gonzalez hit a homer and then broke a tie with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as Cuba rallied to beat Mexico 5-4 on Saturday night to get its second win in the Caribbean Series.

Reliever Alain Sanchez (1-0) allowed four hits and one run over five innings to collect the win for Cuba*s Alazanes de Granma (2-0).

Cuba reached the semifinals last year and is looking for its ninth championship in the Caribbean Series.

Alazanes de Granma will play its next game on Monday when they take on the Dominican Republic*s Aguilas Cibaeñas.

Mexico*s Tomateros de Culiacan suffered their second loss in the tournament and will try to get their first win on Sunday against Venezuela*s Caribes de Anzoategui.

The Venezuelans got their first win in the tournament earlier Saturday beating the Dominican Republic 15-4.

Albino Fuenmayor hit two home runs while Rafael Ortega and Rene Reyes added one apiece.

The Caribes had 20 hits in the game.

Veteran Freddy Garcia (1-0) took the win after allowing six hits and three runs over four innings.

The Dominicans lost their 10th straight game in the Caribbean Series. Their last win was in the 2015 tournament, when the Cibao Gigantes defeated the Culiacan Tomateros.
