It's amazing the difference storage items such as clear tubs and a tiered shelf can make

A messy-looking fridge can be transformed using a few simple storage hacks such as clear tubs and a tiered shelf

1. USE EGG CARTONS FOR CONDIMENTS

If you love using table sauces, then you’ll know the struggle of trying to fit dozens of half-used bottles in your fridge.

But an easy way to organise them is to use an old egg carton – preferably one that held 12 eggs – to keep your bottles in one place in the fridge door.

The grooves will keep bottles all together and prevent them from falling over and potentially spilling sauce all over your fridge.

2. KEEP FRUIT IN JAM JARS

If you enjoy a bowl of mixed fruit in the morning, it's handy to keep them all in one place such as a jam jar as it will save on space and keep them fresh

We’re told that the best way of storing fruit in the fridge is to keep it in its original packaging.

But the packets can take up valuable space in the fridge.

Instead, store leftover fruit in tall jam jars, especially if you often eat different fruits together, such as blueberries and strawberries.

3.  USE A TIERED SHELF FOR OTHER SAUCES

A tiered shelf can help you to keep track of how many sauces you have and which ones you've already opened

If you love using jams and other table sauces, then your fridge can become full of jars.

For wider jars that don’t fit in your egg carton container, buy a tiered shelf and use that to store your preserves.

The tiers will help you see all the sauces you have to stop you from opening a new jar before the old one is used up.

4. STORE FOOD IN CLEAR TUBS

Keep foods together in groups such as dairy or vegetables and label them so you know what's inside

Keep food groups separate and tidy in individual clear tubs.

You could have three tubs for each shelf, dividing them into groups such as dairy or vegetables.

It’s a good idea to label them to remind yourself of what’s inside.

AO Life recommends you create an ‘eat first’ box to remind yourself of what needs eating up fastest to prevent waste.

5. CREATE A MEAT BOX

Meat is the riskiest food to keep in your fridge as if it leaks it can contaminate other food with dangerous bacteria.

It’s safest to keep meat together and separate from other food in another clear box.

6.  MAKE A VEGETABLE BOX

Keep all your vegetbales in one place out of their packaging to save on space and help you to know where everything is

Keeping your vegetables together will help you know where to look when searching for a red pepper, or that pesky courgette at the back of the fridge.

Try storing them in a clear box.

Keeping them out of the packaging may help save on space too.
