At least four children witnessed a 22-year-old woman be set alight at a home in Melbourne on Saturday night.  

Emergency services found the 22-year-old woman, who suffered severe burns, after they were called to Boronia Avenue in Cranbourne just after 6.30pm on Saturday, Nine News reported.  

Neighbours rushed to help after hearing the woman’s blood-curdling scream coming from the home.

‘We smelled smoke, petrol,’ neighbour Daniel McCreedy told 7 News.

‘My partner took care of the lady who had been severely burnt. After I came out, I noticed there was a jerry can at the back that was on fire,’ he added. 

The woman, who is believed to have been living with her in-laws and a one year old child, was rushed to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. 

There, she had skin grafts applied to her head, back and shoulders. 

Firefighters were initially called to the property following reports of a house fire. 

A 29-year-old man is being questioned by police, but no charges have been laid.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
