Couple banned from owning dogs in animal cruelty case

A couple have been banned from owning dogs and fined after their three pets were left with chronic ailments and were unable to walk.

Amanda and Charles Boudville were fined $6000 each and were banned from owning the animals for two years after their three dogs Milo, Chloe and Hikari were seized.

An RSPCA inspector visited their home in Perth in December 2016 after a report from a concerned neighbour.

Milo, a male siberian husky, and Chloe, a female staffordshire terrier, were taken from the couple, while the third dog Hikari, a female siberian husky, was taken off the Boudville’s at a different address.

All three dogs were suffering and in pain, and had fly-bitten ears, severe flea infestations, abnormal hip growth and osteoarthritis.

One dog was in such a bad condition she could not walk or straighten her legs.

Ms Boudville admitted she knew Hikari was in pain and despite visiting a vet, she did not follow up or provide adequate treatment.

Milo and Chloe underwent extensive treatment at the Western Australian RSPCA.

Milo made a full recovery and was able to be rehomed, but Chloe and Hikari’s conditions were so bad they were euthanised.

‘Today is a bittersweet day for Milo, Chloe and Hikari,’ RSPCA WA chief inspector Amanda Swift said.

‘While justice has been served, it has come too late for Chloe and Hikari. They suffered needlessly due to the reckless disregard for their welfare shown by their owners.

‘It astounds me that the owner admitted that she knew her dog, Hikari, was in pain, yet she did nothing about it, even after seeking advice from a vet.

‘The level of neglect these dogs have been through is unthinkable, and it makes me sick to know that she was aware of this for a considerable amount of time and chose to do nothing.

‘Owning a pet is a big responsibility, we know that sometimes it can be expensive, but that’s no reason to ignore your pet’s suffering.’
