Nadia Cakes bakery goes viral after sharing ‘vagina cake’

A bakery in Minnesota is going viral after sharing a photo of their latest cake, which some think looks very similar to a vagina.

Nadia Cakes, a cupcake shop and custom cake studio, posted a snap of what they called a ‘geode’ cake on social media late last month.

The caption said: ‘This beautiful geode cake is available NOW in Maple Grove. Only ONE! 4” round vanilla cake iced with vanilla buttercream. $65. Serves 6. Call to reserve over the phone before it’s gone!’

But instead of getting calls from people looking to buy the cake, the bakery, which was the winner of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, received some attention from thousands who thought the cake, while quite pretty, resembled female genitalia.

Soon after the photo was shared, the image of the ‘vagina’ cake started to circulate on Facebok with some agreeing that it did, indeed, look like a vagina.

‘I have a really awkward boner right now,’ one person commented on the photo of the cake while another continued to poke fun at the bakery in a comment that said: ‘Now that’s a pound cake if I’ve ever seen one.’

Others used their medical training to assure Nadia Cakes that they did a perfect job re-creating a vagina.

One comment said: ‘I’m an OB at Partners OB-GYN, and I approve this message. Good colors. Nice layering. Accurate.’

Another comment read: ‘I’m a midwife…that is a vulva plain and clear in my book she has just vajazzled.’

Since the photo appeared on the bakery’s Facebook, it has received more than 13,000 likes, nearly 10,000 comments and more than 26,000 shares as of Tuesday.

Luckily, the bakery had a good sense of humor over the mishap and posted a response to their ‘pervert’ customers in hilarious fashion.

In a post, Nadia Cakes said: ‘Well, it’s official. Our customers are 50 per cent rock enthusiasts and 50 per cent perverts.’

In another message, the business expressed its surprise over its customers ‘ability’ to find genitalia shapes in cakes.

‘Well, once again we’ve underestimated our customers’ ability to see genitals in our baked goods,’ the company wrote in a Facebook comment. ‘Let’s put that cute mushroom cake we had planned in the “do not make” file.’

The custom cake studio even responded to some of the comments on its Facebook page with a message that said: ‘What, you don’t like the labia pink’ after a customer asked if she could get the cake in a different color.

Hilariously, Nadia Cakes also posted another photo of the cake with a yellow stream of melted buttercream oozing at its bottom, explaining that it had melted in the shop’s window.

‘Soooo, we never sold the now infamous vageode cake,’ the business wrote. ‘We put it on display in the Maple Grove shop where the sun from the window melted it. That yellow stuff is butter from the butter cream filling.

‘This is not a joke. This is not staged. THIS IS REAL LIFE.

‘This cake just never stops giving.’

Nadia Cakes was founded by Abby Jimenez, a self-taught pastry chef and a 2009 winner of a $10,000 winner prize on Food Network’s hit show Cupcake Wars.

According to its website, Nadia Cakes was named after her middle child and opened because of Abby’s ‘lifelong passion for baking, a love for beautiful desserts, and on a complete leap of faith’.

Abby originally started making free cakes for family and friends and they were such a hit that she took a chance a decided to quit her full-time job. Soon after, Nadia Cakes was born.

While she was pregnant with her third child , Abby decided to take cake decorating classes at a local craft store.

She wasn’t able to finish the class due to the arrival of her baby but she still used what she learned and applied it to her baking.
