Trump says US immigration laws allow gangs to flourish

President Donald Trump said the ‘stupidity’ of the nation’s immigration laws is allowing violent gangs like MS-13 to flourish in the US.

The comment was made at an event at the White House on Tuesday aimed at combating the MS-13 gang.

The president said: ‘Not another country in the world has the stupidity of laws that we do.

‘And if we don’t get them changed, this isn’t politics, this isn’t Republican and Democrat, this is common sense. So, it has to be taken care of.’

He says this one of the reasons for the need to build a wall along the US-Mexico border and reform the immigration system.

‘We need these immigration laws changed. We are just not going to be able to continue to do this. They just come in so far, so easy,’ Trump said.

‘And then you have catch and release. You catch people, you have to release them right away.’

MS-13 is the first and only criminal organization in the US to be named as ‘transnational’ by the FBI and operates on the motto of ‘Kill, Rape, Control’, former Massachusetts US Attorney Carmen Ortiz said.

The group was started nearly 20 years ago in Los Angeles after millions of immigrants from El Salvador came to the US after a violent civil war left more than 100,000 dead.

The gang has since spread all over the country, and are known widely as the best killers – due to their exceedingly brutal weapon of choice: a machete.

MS -13 has more than 30,000 members worldwide including 10,000 in the US alone.
