Munroe Bergdorf reveals the results of facial feminisation

The transgender model who was dropped from a L’Oréal campaign after a controversial outburst about racism has revealed the results of her facial feminisation surgery online.

Munroe Bergdorf, 30, who was born male but identifies as a woman, shared photos of her new look on Twitter, and said she had undergone ‘multiple’ procedures to her face, to help bring her features ‘in harmony with how I see myself on the inside’.

The model, who has been living as a woman since she was 18, said on Twitter she had waited seven years to finally have the procedures she so ‘desperately wanted’.

‘I can’t tell you how much of a weight has been lifted,’ Munroe said of the procedures, which were carried out three weeks ago.

Munroe became L’Oréal’s first transgender ambassador when she was selected to star alongside Cheryl Cole and Katie Piper in the beauty giant’s high-profile #allworthit campaign.

But she was swiftly dropped soon after, after she posted rant on her Facebook page that referred to the ‘racial violence’ of ‘ALL white people’.

Munroe’s post revealing her post-surgery appearance has had more than 13,000 likes, and the model has been flooded with messages of congratulations from well-wishers.

She said the operations were carried out three weeks ago, after seven years of waiting to go under the knife.

Munroe explained in her post: ‘I underwent Facial Feminisation Surgery (FFS), which consisted of multiple surgeries to feminise my facial features and help bring them into harmony with how I see myself on the inside.

‘This is surgery that I’ve waited for and desperately wanted for over seven years and I can’t tell you how much of a weight has been lifted as a result.

‘Like many trans people, gender dysphoria is something that I have battled with throughout my transition. I made this decision by myself, for myself, so that I can start the next chapter of my life.’

Munroe said that while many transgender people choose not to get surgery, it was the ‘right decision’ for her.

She went on: ‘Surgery is a personal choice, not all trans people want surgery, not all trans people need or have the medical access to surgery, but it was the right decision for me and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to make such a decision.’

Her followers told her she looked ‘incredible’ and ‘beautiful’ as they congratulated her on the milestone moment in her transition.

Munroe, who used to live as a boy called Ian, works as a DJ and trans activist in addition to her modelling. She began living as a woman at the age of 18, but was prescribed hormones by a doctor just four years ago.

She was thrust into the limelight last September when she was dropped from a L’Oréal beauty campaign after posting a Facebook rant in which she suggested all white people were racist.

She wrote in the rant: ‘Honestly I don’t have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people.

She admitted she has battled 'gender dysphoria', which was a factor in making the decision for surgery

‘Because most of y’all don’t even realise or refuse to acknowledge that your existence, privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and death of people of colour. Your entire existence is drenched in racism. From micro-aggressions to terrorism, you guys built the blueprint for this s***.

‘Come see me when you realise that racism isn’t learned, it’s inherited and consciously or unconsciously passed down through privilege.

‘Once white people begin to admit that their race is the most violent and oppressive force of nature on Earth… then we can talk.

‘Until then stay acting shocked about how the world continues to stay f***** at the hands of your ancestors and your heads that remain buried in the sand with hands over your ears.’

L’Oréal said at the time: ‘We support diversity and tolerance towards all people irrespective of their race, background, gender and religion.

‘The L’Oréal Paris True Match campaign is a representation of these values and we are proud of the diversity of the Ambassadors who represent this campaign.

‘We believe that the recent comments by Munroe Bergdorf are at odds with those values, and as such we have taken the decision to end the partnership with her.

‘L’Oréal remains committed to celebrating diversity and breaking down barriers in beauty.’
