Macy’s launches hijab-friendly, modest clothing collection

Macy’s is set to launch a new line of hijab-friendly clothing after teaming up with an Islamic fashion brand to create the ‘modest’ designs.

The new collection, created in collaboration with Verona Collection, features full-coverage, stylish garments, including items like sweaters and long coats that mix modesty with style.

Verona Collection was founded in 2015 by Lisa Vogl after she became frustrated with the lack of fashionable modest clothing available for herself and other Muslim women.

Lisa herself is a graduate of The Workshop at Macy’s minority- and women-owned business development program. She shared her ideas for the collection during the program last year.

Soon enough, Macy’s was helping Lisa develop her ideas to be sold on the racks of one of America’s largest retailers.

‘Verona Collection is more than a clothing brand. It’s a platform for a community of women to express their personal identity and embrace fashion that makes them feel confident on the inside and outside,’ Lisa said in a press release.

‘Macy’s has been an amazing partner, helping us strengthen the foundation of our business through The Workshop at Macy’s and now introducing our brand to their consumers through this collaboration.’

Among the pieces is a focus on essentials, from demure maxi-dresses to long-sleeved blouses and hand-dyed casual hijabs.

The collection, which boasts an affordable price range of $13 to $85, will first be released on the Macy’s webiste on February 15.

While the steer of the campaign is aimed at Muslim women who may have felt their was a lack of choice for themselves when it comes to fashion, the collection is also bound to have widespread appeal for shoppers.

Macy’s, which also sells brands such as Ivanka Trump and Anne Klein, is just the latest in a long line of brands that have released a clothing line of modest fashions, including Nike and American Eagle, who both released hijab-friendly lines last year.

May 2017’s run of The Workshop was Macy’s seventh year of the program aiming to grow Macy’s partnerships with designers and entrepreneurs.

‘Through The Workshop at Macy’s, we want to nurture and support minority- and women-owned businesses to build their capabilities and become the next generation of retail partners,’ Shawn Outler, Macy’s executive vice president – Licensed Businesses, Food Services and Multicultural Initiatives, said in a statement.

‘We are truly encouraged by the successes of our graduated businesses, including Verona Collection, and look forward to hosting a new class of participants this spring.’
