Reddit users are swooning over a sweet tale of ‘nerd romance’ after two computer programming fans matched on Tinder.
Kevin, from Wisconsin, was intrigued by a woman named Monika whose bio said she worked in IT and was ‘looking for a gentleman.’
So when they both swiped right on each other, Kevin found the perfect opening line — and the two went on to have an adorable conversation in programmer-speak before exchanging phone numbers.

Remarking right away on Monika’s search for a ‘gentleman,’ Kevin tried to help her find one — pretending it was a lost file in her computer
‘Have you tried searching your C: drive?’ he asked. He went on to lay out instructions for what she should do on her computer, writing: ‘Here, try opening your terminal [and] type the following,’ he went on, giving her the extension ‘find/ -type f -iname “gentlemen*”.
Monika played right along, answering him with a sassy reply which noted that the file “gentlemen” no longer existed.
She then pretended to try something else on her computer to find her ‘gentleman,’ saying she typed in ‘find . -type f -print | xargs grep “gentleman”‘.
Yet sure enough, she wrote, her computer indicated that gentlemen are ‘extinct.’
‘That’s unfortunate,’ wrote Kevin, keeping up with the game and doing his best impression of someone working in tech support.
He wrote up a new code, which would create file settings for a gentlemen called Kevin. When Monika pretended to have completed the task but said the file was still ’empty,’ he offered yet another solution — and then finally went in for the kill, asking the woman out on a date.
‘If that doesn’t work, we can get together some time and I’ll manually update your information files on Kevin,’ he wrote.

‘I’d prefer the second one,’ Monika answered. ‘My computer isn’t working correctly.
‘Wonderful,’ Kevin said, before turning the IT talk around. ‘Actually, I’ve got a bit of an issue on my end, if you wouldn’t mind assisting?’
He then went on to explain with more coding language that the the file for Monika’s phone number — phoneNum.text, in a folder called .monika. — was ‘corrupted,’ meaning he couldn’t access her digits.
She obliged, joking that he should run a program called ‘generatethatcutegirls-number’ before finally sending her phone number. He finished up the role-play by giving her his number as well.
After Kevin shared the exchange on Imgur and Reddit on Tuesday, hundreds of commenters chimed into say how charming the found the flirty chat.
‘This is cheesiest and most adorable s*** I have seen in all my years working IT,’ wrote one.
‘No actual conversation was had on their first date. Just coding texts back and forth,’ joked another. ‘They’re getting married next spring.’
‘If you don’t f***in’ marry her and grow old together making nerdy a** programming jokes and teaching your kids how to Phish the other children then I’ma be really pissed off!’ joked a third.
Others couldn’t resist making rude sexual jokes, like ‘Did you try turning her on?’ and ‘I hope you moved all your files from your D drive to her C drive.’
So far, Kevin hasn’t updated those in the thread as to whether the pair have gone out.
