‘Wippa’ sledges Peter Stefanovic over Karl’s engagement

News of Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough’s engagement has dominated headlines recently, alongside claims Karl has been dodging questions and photos.

So when Nova FM’s Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli got the chance to interview his brother, Peter, Wippa wasted no time sledging him over the reports.

The radio host used the show’s ‘rap battle’ segment on Friday to slip in a cheeky joke at Karl and Jasmine’s expense.

The Nova duo were pitted against Peter and his Weekend Today co-host Allison Langdon on this edition of their ongoing pre-written rap contests.

Fitzy went through his entire verse without mentioning the engagement, a topic that friends, family and colleagues of Karl have been tight-lipped about for weeks.

It seemed like Wippa wasn’t going to mention it either, but in the last line, he slipped in a cheeky, cryptic sledge.

‘Let the best rap win / this segment’s not staged / but a victory would help the celebration now your brother’s engaged!’ he sang.

The ‘victory’ Wippa was referring to was a win in the rap battle, but the meaning behind the second part of the sledge is harder to decipher.

It’s possible Wippa was joking that Peter needed to win the rap battle to give him a reason to celebrate after the news of his brother’s engagement.

More likely, the statement was positive, and meant a victory in the battle would give Peter another reason to celebrate, in addition to the joyous engagement news.

Celebrate: 'Let the best rap win / this segment's not staged / but a victory would help the celebration now your brother's engaged!' he sang

Either way, Wippa was clearly joking, and Peter remained a good sport the whole time.

Eventually, Peter and Allison were awarded the win in the rap battle and were seen jubilantly cheering with excitement.

Karl and Jasmine’s engagement was confirmed by a source last Friday, minutes after images surfaced of the Mara & Mine designer flaunting a massive diamond sparkler.

Diss or compliment? It was unclear whether Wippa was implying Peter needed a reason to celebrate now that his brother was engaged, or if he was saying a victory would add to the celebrations
