Hundreds evacuated from blazing Surfers Paradise hotel

Guests staying at the Wyndham Hotel in Surfers Paradise were given a wake-up call they didn’t order when they were forced to evacuate on Monday morning.

Fire crews were called to the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Markwell Avenue amidst reports of a fire ‘engulfing’ a unit.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, initial reports indicate that the fire originated in a kitchen on the thirteenth level of the building.

Firefighters conducted atmospheric testing after the entire building was evacuated, and then handed control of the premises back to the building manager.

Police were also on hand to help hotel staff and guests with the evacuation.

The Queensland Ambulance Service also sent paramedics to the scene, but there were thankfully no injuries.
