Mobile photography award-winning pictures | Daily Mail Online

From misty mountains and monochrome cityscapes to more intimate portraits, these are the sort of photos you might expect to have been taken with a top-of-the-range camera.

But they were actually all taken on mobile phones.

Below is a selection of some of the best pictures from the 7th international Mobile Photography Awards.

The grand prize winner MPA Photographer of the Year has been awarded to Nan Deng, a self-taught photographer from Chengdu, China.

‘It’s another astounding year for the evolution of mobile phone cameras, both technologically and artistically,’ said MPA founder Daniel Berman, a photographer and filmmaker based near Toronto.

‘The work we see each year always gets better. As the quality of mobile phone cameras and applications for editing photos improves so does the creativity of the users.’

The contest was established in 2011 to celebrate the emerging artform as smartphones took over, and is now an established part of the awards calendar.

Winners will be seen on display at the annual print show at Sixteen Mile Arts Photography Gallery in Milton, Ontario this April.
