Traffic was grounded to a halt in Brisbane’s south on Monday morning, with traffic built up for 20 kilometres.
The morning commute to work was up to an hour longer for drivers navigating the northbound lanes on the Gold Coast M1, in Queensland, which were backed up from Yatala to Oxenford.
Announcing the delay, Transport and Main Roads said there was an unusual reason for the traffic build up.

Beer bottles were strewn across the road when a truck lost its load about 4.30am, The Courier Mail reported.
Debris lay across the road between exits 41 and 38 at Yatala, in outer northern area of the Gold Coast for hours.
Traffic was still gridlocked on the M1 four-hours later, as workers scrambled to clean up the mess.
