The hyped-up, all-new instalment of Channel Nine’s action-packed Underbelly franchise hit screens on Sunday.

And Underbelly Files: Chopper has certainly rallied a red-hot conversation across social media – just not in the way the producers intended.

The build-up for the explosive season, based on notorious Melbourne-based gangster Mark ‘Chopper’ Brandon, was derived from the original 2000 Chopper movie played by actor Eric Bana.

Following the premiere, unsatisfied fans have taken to Twitter to slam the crime series kick-starter episode.

‘This #chopper underbelly is all over the place like cockroaches in a kitchen,’ one displeased watcher wrote.

‘Watched two minutes of #chopper. It was woeful beyond comprehension,’ shared another unhappy series fan. 

But it wasn’t just the underwhelming premiere episode itself that let fans down, with many taking to Twitter to slam Aaron Jeffery for his ambitious role as Chopper himself.

The second episode of Underbelly Files: Chopper will air on Monday 12 February at 9:00 pm on Channel 9.
