Essex police investigate claims against U.S. rapper Nelly

U.S. rapper Nelly is under investigation by Essex police over allegations that he sexually assaulted a fan after a gig in Southend in December.

The star is accused of molesting the female fan after she asked him for a photo after his performance at Cliffs Pavilion.

Essex police in a statement said: ‘We are investigating after a woman reported to us that she was sexually assaulted at an address in Westcliff on December 5, 2017.

Nelly, real name Cornell Iral Haynes Jr, has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct

But the star’s lawyer Scott Rosenblum has dismissed the allegations as ‘not new’.

‘The fact that the police are investigating these claims is not new information and Nelly welcomes a thorough investigation.’ he was quoted by Tmz.com as saying.

‘Nelly is confident that once investigated, these claims will be determined to be disingenuous.

‘Nelly was accompanied by his girlfriend during this tour and she was at his side throughout. It is important that police investigate every allegation of this nature.’

But the woman who said she was assaulted is quoted by Tmz.com as saying that the star placed his arm tightly behind her and asked if she could stay behind to talk to him.

‘They went to his dressing room with her friends and she says he then asked her to come to a room next door,’ the website said.

‘She claims once in the room he dropped his pants and began masturbating in front of her. She also claims he put his hand on her top and tried pulling it off. She says he also tried kissing her as she tried to bolt from the room.’

The woman said Nelly put his right hand on the back of her head and his left hand on her shoulder, forced her head down towards his crutch. She said she then ran out of the room as he called her a c***.

The woman says she didn’t go to police immediately because she didn’t think she’d be believed.

The alleged incident occurred two months after another woman claimed Nelly raped her on his tour bus. He strongly denied that as well and the criminal case against him was dropped after she refused testify.

Nelly remains one of the biggest selling rap artists in the U.S., shifting more than 22 million albums.

His 2000, 2002 and 2004 albums Country Grammar, Nellyville and Suit all hit number one on the Billboard charts.

He also had four number one singles with Hot In Herre, Shake Ya Tailfeather, Grillz, and his 2002 smash hit featuring Kelly Rowland, Dilemma.
