Frances Bean Cobain has revealed she is celebrating two years of sobriety after a secret battle with addiction.
The 25-year-old model – who is the daughter of Courtney Love and late Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain – took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal she was celebrating the second anniversary of going clean.
She said she had made the ‘deliberate’ decision to keep her addictions and her recovery out of the public eye ‘for fear about being judged or typecast’, 24 years after her rocker father died while battling similar demons.

Frances wrote: ‘It is an everyday battle to be in attendance for all the painful, bazaar, uncomfortable, tragic, f***ed up things that have ever happened or will ever happen.
‘Self destruction and toxic consumption and deliverance from pain is a lot easier to adhere to. Undeniably, for myself and those around me becoming present is the best decision I have ever made. (sic)’
Though she didn’t reveal what addictions she had been facing in her lengthy Instagram post, she did admit her life was ‘better’ since becoming sober.
She continued: ‘How we treat our bodies directly correlates to how we treat our souls. It’s all interconnected. It has to be.
Life is better: Frances’ father Kurt Cobain (pictured carrying her after her birth) famously battled his own demons
Brave: Frances (whose mother is Courtney Love, pictured right with Kurt and Frances) said she had to ‘put aside my fear about being judged or misunderstood or typecast’
‘So I’m gonna take today to celebrate my vibrant health and the abundance of happiness, gratitude, awareness, compassion, empathy, strength, fear, loss, wisdom, peace and the myriad of other messy emotions I feel constantly.’
Frances has been on holiday in Oahu, Hawaii with her boyfriend Matthew Cook, and said that her confession was prompted by a ‘pure moment… amongst nature, with my love.’
She captured a smiling selfie next to a rainbow orb and shared it alongside her emotional confession.
She’d written: ‘It’s an interesting and kaleidoscopic decision to share my feelings about something so intimate in a public forum.

Out of the spotlight: She said it had been a deliberate decision to keep her battle and recovery out of the spotlight
‘The fact that I’m sober isn’t really public knowledge, decidedly and deliberately. But I think it’s more important to put aside my fear about being judged or misunderstood or typecast as one specific thing.
‘I want to have the capacity to recognize & observe that my journey might be informative, even helpful to other people who are going through something similar or different.’
Frances’ father – one of the world’s most famous musicians – passed away when she was just two. He was 27 years old.
The Nirvana rocker was famously plagued by drug addiction, and overdosed in Rome just one month before he killed himself with a shotgun.
Frances also faced her own personal battles, including a famously volatile relationship with her mother Courtney, and her divorce from Isaiah Silva last November, after just two years.

Kurt’s mother Wendy, and his sister Kimberley, were given temporary guardianship of Frances in her teenage years.
Courtney tried numerous times to reach out to her daughter via social media in grand gestures, as well as through the press in various interviews and stories.
Her mother was also not invited to Frances’ wedding to Eeries singer, Isaiah in September 2014.
Their fractious relationship was only successfully healed in 2016 and Frances has since found love again with guitarist Matthew.
