Perth man bashed over breakfast by thug in his own home

An elderly man Perth was brutally bashed in his own kitchen during breakfast.

The man, 71, remains in hospital with a severe cut to his head, a spinal fracture and facial fractures following the unprovoked attack  in Oakford at 8.30am on Sunday.

Police do not know why the intruder broke in and assaulted the man and his 64-year-old wife.

It is not believed anything was stolen from the property.

‘We consider this to be a very cowardly act,’ Armadale Det-Const Johnny Valastro said.

‘We consider the person to be quite irate and violent, we don’t encourage anyone to approach the person but to call police or crime stoppers.’

Shocking images show the full extent of the man’s injuries. Police believe he was bashed with a heavy weapon.

Police have released a composite image of a man they would like to speak to in regards to the attack.

They are also asking residents who live near Hopkinson Road, between Thomas and Orton Roads to check their CCTV cameras for any vision of a black ute.
