The Queen has always set the standard for class, dignity and etiquette.
But on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australian on Wednesday, Paul Burrell told a hilarious story of the time she found herself accused of discourtesy.
And it was all because of a flatulent horse, who threatened to spoil a lovely carriage ride between Prince Phillip, The Queen, and the Sultan of Bahrain.
‘I’m terribly sorry about that awful noise’: The VERY awkward story of the time the Queen was falsely accused of farting in front of the Sultan of Bahrain
‘Imagine the picture. I’m sat here, people are singing God Save The Queen, and the Queen and Prince Philip are next to me,’ Paul began his story on Wednesday.
Sitting next to the Queen was the Sultan, who was enjoying ‘a polite conversation’ with his Royal companions.
Expert storyteller Paul perfectly set-up the twist, offering: ‘then, suddenly, a huge explosion of wind (flatulence) came from one of the horses in front’.
Apparently, so hearty was the bottom burp, the smell ‘went straight through the carriage,’ stopping the polite conversation in its tracks.
Set the scene: ‘Imagine the picture. I’m sat here, people are singing God Save The Queen, and the Queen, Prince Philip and the Sultan of Bahrain are next to me,’ Paul recalled
What do we do about that? ‘Then, suddenly, a huge explosion of wind (flatulence) came from one of the horses in front’ Paul said
On this occasion, the Sultan was a guest of the Queen and Prince Phillip and so as any mortified animal owner would do, the pair began fretting.
Paul recalled: ‘The Queen leaned to Prince Philip and said, “Do you think I should say something?” And he (Phillip) said, “Yes, do.”‘
He’s our guest! Paul recalled: ‘The Queen leaned to Prince Philip and said, “Do you think I should say something?” And he (Phillip) said, “Yes, do.”‘
Suspense! ‘She leaned forward and touched the Sultan’s knee and said, “I’m terribly sorry about that awful noise,” and she sat back’
‘She leaned forward and touched the Sultan’s knee and said, “I’m terribly sorry about that awful noise,” and she sat back’.
In response: ‘the sultan leaned forward, touched the Queen’s knee and said: “That’s quite alright, your majesty… I thought it was one of the horses!” ‘
The camp, who were left in stitches, may be well served probing Paul for more juicy details at a rapid pace in the coming days, as he’s currently up for elimination.
He entered the camp alongside Vicky Pattison on Tuesday.
Lost in translation: In response: ‘the sultan leaned forward, touched the Queen’s knee and said: “That’s quite alright, your majesty… I thought it was one of the horses!”
