Adelaide retiree builds pontoon in middle of West Lakes

A keen craftsman has found a way to enjoy million dollar panoramic waterfront views for next to nothing.

In the middle of West Lakes, in Adelaide, sits a floating slice of paradise created by retiree Bogdan Krzywon.

‘It’s fun… it’s like camping only there is water around,’ he told 7 News.

The pontoon costs Mr Krzywon $2000 to make and is fitted with floating barrels below a timber deck.

Atop the deck are an esky, tent and Mr Krzywon’s kayak.

Mr Krzywon said he came up with idea after realising he watched too much television and spent too much time on the computer.

But local residents, whose million-dollar homes sit only metres from the pontoon, aren’t so keen on the idea.

‘Anyone who thinks they can get a million-dollar view that cheap is having a go,’ resident Rick Newlyn said.

‘Were not happy… but it looks like a joke.’

But it turns out, under local council rules, the pontoon is legal with a permit.

Mr Krzywon plans to dock temporarily before selling his creation on Gumtree.
