Caden Walsh, 10 (pictured), was forced to crawl a quarter of a mile to his home after he was struck on Friday afternoon by a hit-and-run driver while leaving his elementary school in Austin, Texas
A 10-year-old boy was forced to crawl a quarter of a mile home after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in Texas on Friday afternoon.
Heather Brady said her son, Caden Walsh, had left Forest North Elementary School in Austin and was walking down Hymeadow Drive around 3.30pm when a driver mounted the sidewalk and hit him.
The fifth-grader was pushed into a tree and dazed by the impact but realized his leg was bleeding badly.
All he remembers was that the vehicle that hit him was a dark-colored SUV.
‘He’s down at the bottom of the stairs, his leg is just covered in blood, he probably has a ball-peen hammer sized chunk of his leg missing, he’s just screaming blood-curdling screams,’ Jay Brady, Caden’s stepfather, told KXAN.
They rushed Caden to the hospital and, while he didn’t suffer any broken bones, he had to get 10 stitches for his leg wound.
According to his mother, Caden (pictured) had left Forest North Elementary School in Austin and was walking down Hymeadow Drive around 3.30pm when a driver mounted the sidewalk and hit him

‘[I was] scared,’ he told Austin TV station KXAN.
‘I really didn’t know what was going to happen, I’d never had an injury at a time that bad. I haven’t ever broken any bones.’
When Caden returned to school, he needed crutches to walk, and his parents no longer allow him to walk home from school.
Heather Brady is now asking the public for their help in finding who hit her son and left him injured without calling for help.
‘He could have been dead on the side of the road because somebody just took off, because they didn’t care enough to even go check on him, they just took off, what kind of person does that?’ she said.
‘Somebody out there knows something and we just want that person to come forward so we can get justice for our 10-year-old son.’
When Caden returned to school, he needed crutches to walk, and his parents no longer allow him to walk home from school.
Both Caden’s mother and Austin police (pictured at a press conference about the incident) are asking any witnesses or someone who has video of the hit-and-run will come forward
Caden’s mother has gone around to local businesses in the area of the incident asking if they has surveillance footage, but none did.
She hopes that a witness or someone who has video of the hit-and-run will come forward.
According to Austin police, an unidentified woman helped Caden home, but they weren’t sure how long she was with the boy or when she first helped him.
