Son charged in murder-for-hire plot of his parents

A 23-year-old was charged with hiring another man to murder his parents early Sunday, police have said. 

Joshua Miceli and Michael Targo were arrested in connection to the attack of a couple living in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn early Sunday morning. 

The attack occurred when a man entered the couple’s home at around 2.50am and bludgeoned them with a hammer.   

The man was quickly tracked down at a nearby business and later identified as 18-year-old Targo, the Dupage County sheriff’s office told the Chicago Tribune on Monday.

Targo was allegedly hired by the couple’s son, Josh Miceli, to murder his parents.

Miceli allegedly confessed to hiring Targo in an interview with police, authorities told the Tribune. 

The parents, who have not been named, both sustained serious injuries but are are stable. Sgt Robert Harris said the mother was still in the hospital as of Monday afternoon.

Investigators say that Targo accepted an officer from Miceli which said the teen would be paid after the parents were killed.

Both young men were arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. 

Miceli is also facing an additional two counts of solicitation of murder. 

They are being held without bail after an appearance in court Monday to set bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court for a second time on March 12. 

It’s not clear if either man has legal representation.  

In a news release Monday, Under Sheriff Frank Bibbiano credited the department for making the arrests and apprehending the suspects.

‘I would like to praise our deputies for quickly apprehending these dangerous criminals and the investigators who were able to put the pieces together so swiftly,’ Bibbiano said. 

‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this heinous crime and we hope for their speedy recovery.’
