It is a striking bronze that depicts the Duke of Cambridge in all his finery, riding out on horseback as Colonel of the Irish Guards, to celebrate his grandmother’s birthday at Trooping The Colour.

Now this sculpture has won a very special fan: the Queen herself, who has acquired her own copy of the 30in figure as a touching memento.

Artist Ms. Wallace explained that she created the Prince William bronze after attending Trooping The Colour. The statue costs £23,000 and is on sale in Mayfair

Artist Ms. Wallace explained that she created the Prince William bronze after attending Trooping The Colour. Right, the bronze statue costs £23,000 and is on sale in Mayfair

The bronze – by artist Caroline Wallace – is on sale at a Mayfair gallery for £23,000. But the sculptor’s agent revealed that the Queen now has the original ‘artist’s proof’ in her private collection.

It is not the first work from Ms Wallace that has caught Her Majesty’s eye. The artist said: ‘She has four or five of my sculptures – but I don’t divulge what she’s got.’

Ms Wallace, who is based in Somerset and specialises in equine sculptures, explained that she created the Prince William bronze after attending Trooping The Colour, ‘then I went to visit the horse he rode in the barracks at Knightsbridge’.

Ms Wallace – who is also lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal – has previously made a likeness of the Queen Mother’s racehorse Special Cargo for Sandown Park racecourse.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment last night.
