The former agent to many NBA superstars has been killed in a car crash near Aspen, Colorado.

Dan Fegan was driving an SUV when he was hit by a bus on Highway 82 around 9.22am Sunday, sources confirmed to the Aspen Times.

He was attempting to cross or merge on to the highway when his SUV was broadsided by the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus, the Colorado State Patrol said.

‘The bus didn’t have time to avoid the collision, so it broadsided the other vehicle and knocked it into the median,’ RFTA CEO Dan Blankenship told the Times.

The 56-year-old was killed on impact, and two others who were in the car with him, a 29-year-old woman and Fegan’s five-year-old son were both airlifted to a Denver hospital with serious injuries.

Updates on their conditions were not available as of Sunday night.

There were two people in the bus, the driver and one passenger, and though they were reported as feeling ‘shaken up’, neither was injured in the crash.

During his career Fegan represented high-profile players such as DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall and Dwight Howard.

In 2016 he was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the top agents in the country.

But in 2017 that career abruptly ended when he controversially and publicly split with his agency, Independent Sports & Entertainment.

The agency fired him, causing a very public and costly lawsuit when it claimed he operated a side agency and was trying to poach its clients.

But then Fegan filed a suit against ISE’s president and CEO Hank Ratner, asking for at least $30million. He claimed Ratner ‘orchestrated a Machiavellian conspiracy to destroy… Fegan’s reputation and steal his clients.’

A few hours after his death on Sunday some of Fegan’s former clients took to Twitter to post tributes to the agent.

Memphis Grizzlies forward Chandler Parsons tweeted: ‘I can’t believe you are gone. I am forever grateful for what you did for me and will never forget that. This isn’t fair but i know you are in a better place and we will have a glass of red again someday. #RipDanFegan’

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban remembered Fegan as a man with a good heart.

‘I loved Dan. He was an amazing man. Always a friend. Always a pro. Smart,’ Cuban wrote in an email to the Aspen Times.

‘He loved his son Braden more than anything in the world.’

Fegan’s family issued a statement via spokesman Terry Fahn: ‘Today we lost a great man, father, son and brother who always stood up not only for his clients, but also for what he knew was right. We are all shocked and saddened by this tragic development and appreciate the outpouring of support. We ask for privacy at this difficult time.’
