Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich revealed that Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is the toughest opponent he has faced so far in his career.

The 23-year-old German defender was tasked with keeping the Spaniard in check when his former employers Juventus took om Kimmich’s Bayern in the Champions League in 2016.

While Morata is suffering for form in west London currently, the international striker has proven his undoubted quality at both Juventus and Real Madrid and his performance has remained vivid in Kimmich’s memory.

‘It was very tough to play against him because he has a very strong body, he is very fast and has a good technique,’ Kimmich said in an interview with Goal. 

‘It wasn’t easy to play against him.’

Bayern went on to win the game 4-2 at the Allianz Arena but it was the physicality, pace, power and technique of Morata that stuck with the German defender.

Kimmich was also quizzed on other topics during the discussion including his preference between Real Madrid and Barcelona, his favourite film and TV show as well as who he feels is the stand-out player of his generation.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Juventus star Paulo Dybala and team-mate Kingsley Coman were all names Kimmich put in the frame.

‘I think we have a good generation with a lot of very good players,’ Kimmich said.
