National Crime Authority bombing: Man charged with murder

A man has been charged with murder over the 1994 bombing of the National Crime Authority which left a policeman dead.

The 61-year-old accused is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

In March, 1994, a bomb exploded at the National Crime Authority office, killing Detective Sergeant Geoffrey Bowen and causing serious injuries to Peter Wallis, a lawyer employed by the NCA.

The arrest follows a two-and-a-half year investigation by SA Police, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and Forensic Science.

Task Force Cornus, led by the SA Police Major Crime Investigation Branch, has been active since September 2015 reviewing the case and pursing new lines of inquiry.

A reward of $1m has been issued for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

There is also the potential for immunity to be offered to those not directly involved in the murder.

More to come.
