Sean Hannity was not at home when the man gained entry to his house on February 17
A former dentist has been arrested for trespassing at Sean Hannity’s Long Island property after sneaking in by claiming he was writing a book about the host.
Jan Gilbert, 72, was arrested not long after leaving Hannity’s home on February 17.
He was thrown out by the 56-year-old Fox News host’s wife Jill who was confronted by him inside.
Gilbert, according to police documents, approached the house in his car and told someone, likely a security guard, that he was writing a book about Hannity and had to give him some papers.
The unnamed witness allowed him in and followed him inside the property where he was met by Jill.
She announced that he did not know her husband and did not have permission to be at the home.
Gilbert left and was arrested by police a short while later in his blue Infiniti.
Court papers released on Wednesday show that Gilbert was charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
He told Newsday there was a reasonable explanation for the incident but refused to say what it was.
‘There is a real reason, a valid reason, a superior reason and a fully confirmed reason, but I’m not going to be able to talk about it,’ said Gilbert.
‘Someone misheard, fabricated or misunderstood,’ he said.
According to charging documents, Jan Gilbert was allowed into the house and was followed in by an unnamed person. Once inside, he was confronted by Hannity’s wife Jill who said he should not be there and did not know her husband. Their $10million Long Island home is pictured
Hannity’s seven-bedroom home in Long Island’s Oyster Bay. It was last listed in 2008 for $10.5million.
The outspoken TV host has not commented on Gilbert’s arrest.
It is not the first time a fan has come too close.
In 2005, a Maryland woman was arrested for a second time for allegedly stalking Hannity.
Miriam Burstein was charged with breaking a probation order which stopped her from contacting him after she sent him two packages in the mail to his Fox news office.
They contained letters in which she wrote: ‘LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO ME’ and ‘PLEASE WRITE BACK TO ME’.
Hannity had previously told police he was in fear for his life because she kept confronting him at appearances.
