There’s a lot to consider when it comes to shaping your eyebrows – from the product you use (pencil or gel?) to the length, thickness and shape (arched or straight?).
But according to one specialist, the perfect brow depends entirely on your face shape – and it all comes down to a simple ‘rule of opposites’.
‘When it comes to shaping brows, there’s more to it than just the thickness of the brow or how high the arch should be,’ Jamie Long, Elite Stylist at HD Brows (beautyinhighdefinition.com/about), told FEMAIL.
‘There are many factors to consider when deciding how to wear your brows – and face shapes is one of the most important. Whilst you definitely want your brow to compliment your face shape, don’t over think it.
‘My rule for this is to think in opposites.’
FEMAIL spoke to brow specialist Jamie Long, who revealed the best brow shapes to have according to your face shape – including (L-R) oval, square and round
Round face
‘If you have a round shaped face, stay away from curved or rounded brows as this will make the face seem larger than it is. Instead, opt for something slightly more angular and structured to balance out your features.’
For this, Jamie recommends using an ultra-slim brow pencil to draw in precise hair strokes to the ‘tail’ to elongate the brow.
Long face
‘For a longer face shape, the brows should be slightly shorter in length and the arch should be subtle. Anything with too much lift in the brow will make the face seem longer than it is.’
Square face
‘Following my rule of opposites, keep the brow free of any angular shapes. In the case of a square face shape, a slightly more curved brow will suit you as it helps to soften the features.’
Jamie suggests applying a touch of brow powder to blur any angled parts of the brow and give a softer overall finish.
People with a long face will benefit most from a slightly shorter brow with a subtle arch – while heart and diamond-shaped faces call for a curved arch and a soft brow according to Jason
Heart face
‘If you have a heart-shaped face, the best brow for you is slightly shorter in length with a curved arch, to help balance the proportions of the face.’
Jamie advises applying a quick sweep of brow highlighter under the arch to make it pop.
Oval face
‘You can afford to keep the brow shape more structured, with a slight angled arch if you have an oval face shape. Don’t go overboard though, as a super high arch will make the face appear longer than it is.’
Diamond face
‘If you have a diamond face shape, you are lucky as you suit a variety of brow sizes and lengths. My tip would be to keep the brows softer rather than angled, keep it natural.’
