Prince William introduces a new mental health initiative in London

Last night saw the royals come out in force as Meghan Markle made her working debut alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Wednesday.

However, it was a lonelier affair for Prince William today as he stepped out solo to launch a new mental health initiative.

The royal, who is expecting his third child in April, today launched a mental health website and online training project aimed at supporting wellbeing in the workplace.

William, 36, attended the Workplace Wellbeing Conference in central London to launch the project on Thursday.

Looking dapper in a navy blazer and deep red tie the prince greeted fellow mental health campaigners at the Unilever centre.

The royal attended a meeting where he unveiled the new project in capacity with his charity Heads Together.

Speaking today William said: ‘Everyone in this room knows that while work can provide a great sense of fulfilment, it can – at times – be a significant source of stress and negatively impact our mental health.

‘For me, this is personal. I worked in a job as an air ambulance pilot quite recently where along with my colleagues I dealt with traumatic and stressful situations. But in my place of work, mental health was taken very seriously.

‘We could be open about our experiences and could support our colleagues when they needed it, including very thorough debriefs. We knew how to talk about pressure and knew where to direct each other for help.

‘That is what we need in every workplace in this country.’

Speaking on Wednesday at the forum for his Royal Foundation, William highlighted the statistics which had come out of his mental health campaign.

He said: ‘Only two per cent of people at work go to HR (Human Resources) to talk about mental health – two per cent.

‘Work is one of the most stressful places that we go to every day, and the fact is people aren’t feeling like they can go to work and actually speak to those people who in theory know the system and know the environment you’re working in.

‘We’ve got to really do something about mental health and the workplace as well.’

During the event William also took part in a roundtable discussion about the issues of mental health in the workplace with senior business leaders.

On Wednesday the prince joined Kate, Meghan and Harry at the Royal Foundation to update the public on their charitable projects.

The young Royals showed their softer side at the foundation forum today when joking about the challenges of working together as a family.

After being asked by presenter Tina Daheley if the ‘ever have disagreements’ William immediately burst into laughter before responding with a drawn out ‘Ohhhh yes’.

Harry was quick to clarify they were ‘healthy disagreements’ and joked they ‘come so thick and fast’ when asked what the last thing they quarrelled on was.

William continued the banter, quipping: ‘Is it resolved? We don’t know!’

But Harry steered the topic back towards the serious message, adding: ‘I think it’s really good we have got four different personalities and we all have that same passion to make a difference.

‘We have different opinions and they work really well [together]. Working as family does have its challenges; of course it does. [I think] the fact that everybody is laughing shows they know ‘exactly’ what’s it like. But we are stuck together for the rest of our lives.’

Meghan added: ‘Togetherness at it’s finest’

But Ms Daheley summed it up when she said: ‘Well you’re putting on a great show if [your last argument] is not resolved!’
