After spending so much time with his beloved Rubber Duckie, Ernie from Sesame Street would naturally have become pretty good at quacking. But it turns out, he’s good at tweeting, too.
Bert and Ernie, the beloved best friends who live together on Sesame Street, both made pretty under-the-radar debuts in Twitter in late 2016 and early 2017.
But each account has steadily gained a following thanks to their cute, wholesome tweets — and Bert’s exasperated responses to Ernie’s annoying habits.

Too cute: Their Twitter conversations reflect their behavior on the show
Gosh! Bert is often quite exasperated with his pal Ernie
Bert and Ernie made their debut on Sesame Street when the show premiered in 1969. They’ve lived together in an apartment in the basement of 123 Sesame Street since then.
Ernie is the goofy one, whose silly habits sometimes get on Bert’s nerves. He loves his Rubber Duckie, and famously sang an ode to it in a classic song from the show.
Bert, meanwhile, is more uptight. He’s the smarter of the pair, and is often explaining things to Ernie. He has a pet pigeon, Bernice, and he also collects paper clips and bottle caps.
On Twitter, their personalities and preferences come shining through. Ernie acts silly, doing things like plugging his buddy Bert’s face into ‘that new app that matches your face to a painting’, and Bert responds in annoyance.
In 2017, Ernie shared a GIF of himself ‘practicing’ to surprise Bert on his birthday — to which Bert responded: ‘Ernieeeeee!!! It’s not a surprise when you tweet about it!’

Wow! Seems both puppets are more tech-savvy than one might expect
Hands off! Bert really doesn’t like Ernie messing with his paper clip collection
In early January, Bert wrote excitedly, ‘2018 is going to be the best year ever! Paperclip Convention 2018 here I come!’
That’s when Ernie tweeted that one of his New Year’s resolutions was to ‘practice my bugle every night at 9PM SHARP!’
‘Ugh, I spoke too soon about 2018,’ Bert replied.
Bert also shares his love of paperclips and Bernie, while Ernie posts pictures of himself with his Rubber Duckie.
In November, Ernie had a particularly cute exchange with John Stamos, after the actor shared a throwback photo of himself as a kit playing with his own Bert and Ernie puppets.
‘Hey, uh, John, can you fix my hair there? It’s sticking up a bit,’ Ernie wrote.
Whoops: The cute tweets have earned them thousands of fans

Duck love: Ernie also talks about his beloved Rubber Duckie
Bert and Ernie aren’t the only Sesame Street residents who are finding their voices on social meda.
Elmo also has a Twitter account, and is a slightly more prolific tweeter (with more followers to boot).
Recently, he wrote pep talks and kind words of praise to competitors at the Olympics, adding the hashtag #ELMOtivation.
‘Elmo is so proud of you Miss Lindsey! Elmo thinks you did a wonderful job in the #WinterOlympics!’ he wrote to Lindsey Vonn.
More: Elmo also has a Twitter account — but is still figuring out how to take a selfie
