Kim Kardashian accuses Yves Saint Laurent of copying Kanye West

Kim Kardashian has called out Yves Saint Laurent on Instagram, apparently accusing the brand of copying her husband Kanye West’s stage lighting during its Fashion Week show.

The reality star, 37, took to Instagram Stories to share a snap from the French label’s runway show, which took place in Paris on Tuesday.

Kim, who is currently in Tokyo, simply wrote ‘Cute YSL’ on top of the photos, which shows a model walking on the catwalk underneath rows of spotlights.

That update on its own could have seemed rather unassuming, but Kim went on to post two additional pictures showing her husband Kanye, 40, onstage during his Saint Pablo tour, which wrapped up in November 2016.

In the photos, Kanye is standing beneath rows of spotlights too, and the implication behind Kim’s posts seems to be that Yves Saint Laurent copied the rapper’s idea when conceptualizing its catwalk show.

While Kim didn’t detail her grievances against the designer, her followers quickly took notice that she appeared to be ‘shading’ the label.

‘Kim shading YSL via ig stories today lmaooo I love this woman,’ a fan account by the name of Kim Kardashian Army tweeted.

‘Did Kim just call out YSL LMAOO,’ someone else added.

However, others thought Kim’s allegations against the designer seemed quite ironic, especially because Kim and her sisters have been suspected of copying other creators many times in the past.

‘LOL @ Kim K for posting about YSL having the same lights at their show that kanye had on tour, as if she doesnt “get inspired by”/ steal ideas from everyone,’ someone wrote.

Another person imagined Kim saying ‘Oh rows of spotlights, real original YSL, my husband did that already’ and deemed the sentiment worthy of ‘eye roll’.

In fact, Kim’s Instagram Story posts came just as her sister Kylie Jenner, 20, was accused of copying beauty YouTuber Jaclyn Hill while creating her newest make-up range inspired by her one-month-old daughter Stormi.

As for Kim herself, she was accused, along with Kanye, of ripping off a pair of designs by Comme Des Garcons and Vetements in their Kids Supply range of children’s clothing in December 2017.

Specifically, the Instagram account diet_prada shared side-by-side photos showing a Comme Des Garcons jacket and Kids Supply’s near-identical replica, as well as a sparkly dress made by Vetements and previously worn by Taylor Swift next to Kim and Kanye’s version.

A representative told Page Six at the time that the pint-sized versions were meant to be taken as a ‘homage’ rather than copies.

Kanye has had a contentious relationship with Yves Saint Laurent’s former creative director Hedi Slimane, now with Celine.

The rapper previously told BBC Radio 1 that he wrote his song I Am A God, which appears on his 2013 album Yeezus, after Hedi Slimane invited him to his Fashion Week show but asked that Kanye refrain from attending other shows in return, according to Kanye himself.

‘Nobody can tell me where I can and can’t go. Man, I’m the number one living and breathing rock star,’ Kanye later told W Magazine. ‘I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix.’
