A British pub restaurant chain has come under fire after appearing to exclude single mothers from their Mother’s day offer.
Brewers Fayre emailed loyal Bonus Club customers offering ‘Mums Eat Free’ at the restaurant on March 11 when purchasing another main meal.
Yet, some single mother’s felt the offer discriminated against them as the small print said the offer was only ‘open to two parent families of either mixed or same sex regardless of gender’.

Several mothers took to social media over the confusing details which implies that single mothers and widows would be excluded while a male couple with children would be entitled to the free main meal.
Mother-of-two Kathryn Fox is a loyal customer of Brewers Fayre and asked: ‘So all us single moms doing it by ourselves don’t deserve a treat?’
The 46-year-old business manager said: ‘I actually was planning to book anyway as we have a Brewers Fayre not to far from my home and I and my children enjoy going there.
‘So when this email came I thought well that’s a bonus. But then when I scrolled down and saw it was open to all two-parent families, I was mortified.
‘For someone like me who is very proud of being able to raise my kids on my own, it felt like a kick in the teeth, it’s a total insult.

‘As a loyal customer they’re happy to take my hard earned single mums cash on a regular basis without me needing a partner, so why do I need one now on Mother’s Day of all days?’
The insulted mother added: ‘It struck me as not about celebrating mums but treating those with a dad.
‘I’m an ex-military wife who had to choose to leave my lovely husband after he returned from Afghanistan suffering from PTSD and became violent during flashbacks. So I chose to become a single mum for mine and my kids safety.’
Caroline Slater, from Great Yarmouth, posted to Brewers Fayre’s official Facebook page about the small print after receiving the email on February 23.
The 47-year-old said: ‘I have three grown up children, the eldest two live away from home, but my 19-year-old autistic daughter still lives with me so I would be purchasing an adult meal from their main menu. I thought great, a place where my daughter is happy to go, and a free meal to boot.

‘I then read the small print to find it states ‘offer is open to all two parent families of either mixed or same sex regardless of gender’ – meaning a family where both parents are male can get a free meal but I can’t.
‘As I am my youngest’s full time carer I cannot work and am fully reliant on benefits so we don’t go out very often as it is, so was looking forward to having a meal out on Mother’s Day.’
The Brewers Fayre Facebook page replied to one of the several similar complaint posts saying: ‘Please accept our sincere apologies for the way that this has been worded, we can assure you that it was not our intention to exclude anyone.
‘The promotion will be honoured to any mum when purchasing another main meal from our main restaurant menu or our Mother’s Day 2/3 course menu at the same time (i.e. one of your children, partner, friend or a family member).’
Brewers Fayre have been contacted for comment.
