Lizard snatches rabbit from beneath the ground and swallows it WHOLE

This is the unbelievable clips where a lizard swallowed a rabbit in one go, after snatching the tiny creature from its hole.

The scene begins with only the lizard’s tail visible, as it burrows deep into the rabbit hole in search of its meal, before emerging back into the open clutching its victim.

The terrified rabbit can be heard squealing as it desperately attempts to escape from the much larger perentie lizard, which is native to Australia.

Despite the bunny’s best efforts, the reptile grips it by the throat with its teeth, rendering it completely unable to escape – while a second rabbit sprints from the hole in a bid to avoid the same fate.

After the rabbit stops fighting, the perentie begins to swallow it with juddering movements, seeming to struggle with the huge quantity of food.

The incredible video was captured at the Alice Springs Golf Course in Desert Springs, Australia, in 2013, and has resurfaced – shocking viewers all over the world.

It is normal for perentie lizards to swallow their prey whole, and larger creatures can even hunt kangaroos

People were quick to comment on the clip, which has been seen 110,000 times on YouTube, with one saying: ‘Jesus – it was alive all the way down. In its belly, you will find a new definition of pain and suffering, as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.’

Another added that the rabbit had ‘sacrificed’ itself for the second bunny: ‘She sacrificed herself so the baby can get away.’

Perentie lizards eat insects, other lizards, fish and birds, and larger perenties can attempt to kill kangaroos and pets like cats.

Often, the creatures will ambush their victims, and once they are captured, they will shake them to death between their jaws, before swallowing them in one go.
