Woman reveals how a bad weave forced her to shave her hair off

A woman has shared how she shaved her head bald after receiving a damaging weave that caused her scalp to bleed and scab before clumps of her hair fell out.

In a candid YouTube video that has since gone viral, Sierra Baynes, 20, from Georgia, reveals the scars on the back of her head while warning people to only allow professional hair stylists to do their hair.

Sierra admits that she foolishly let a woman who didn’t really know what she was doing give her a sew-in weave, and she claims the person braided her hair so tightly that she ended up with severe scalp damage.

‘She braided my head entirely way too tight, and so over time, my head started to produce scabs and my head actually started bleeding,’ she explains in the clip. ‘Once I took the sew-in out, clumps of hair was like coming out of my head.’

Sierra says she did contact the person to tell her that her hair was falling out, but the woman insisted it was her fault because she had left her weave in for ‘too long.’

‘I’m like, no you braided it too tight,’ she says, ‘but you know people never want to own up to what they’ve done wrong.’

The YouTuber explains that the woman wasn’t working a salon, so she refrained from taking legal action. She figured her hair would just grow back.

Revelation: Sierra admits she didn’t realize there were scars on the back of her head until she made the decision to shave off her hair because of the damage

However, overtime, she realized that the hair in the center of scalp was growing a lot slower than the other sections on her head.

Sierra admits she didn’t think anything of it at first, and she continued to heat style her hair and get frontal sew-ins.

She eventually realized her hair was ‘just done’ for and made the decision to shave it all off. That’s when she first noticed there were scars on her head that divided her hair into sections.

‘I actually felt the division in my head, and I was like, “Hmm feels weird,” but I didn’t even know that that scar was just there,’ she explains.

Advice: 'You get what you pay for,' Sierra warns. 'If someone is charging you $50 [or] $8 for a sew-in, typically your head is going to be split in fours like mine'

Sierra’s friend took a picture of the back of her head to show her what was going on, and she told herself: ‘Well, this is what my life has come to.’

She realized there wasn’t much she could do, so she decided to focus on getting her scalp to heal.

When she researched what had happened to her head, she learned that she had severe scalp damage.

Unsurprisingly, Sierra has stopped getting sew-ins, and instead, she is opting to wear wigs as she waits for her natural hair to grow in.

At the end of the clip, Sierra warns that people should only let trained professionals do their hair.

‘You get what you pay for,’ she says. ‘If someone is charging you $50 [or] $8 for a sew-in, typically your head is going to be split in fours like mine.

‘If you want to prevent that, then just go to a professional, That’s all I’m going to say.’
