Florida boy with a history of grand theft auto tries to steal a car

A 10-year-old boy from Florida has been taken to a juvenile detention facility after he tried to steal an SUV from a car dealership while still on probation for an almost identical crime.

Damarion Moore was caught on CCTV at a parking lot at Holly Hill near Daytona Beach.

Footage from the auto outlet shows the boy along with an older friend unlocking cars with keys that were stolen earlier in the day, according to police.

The garage say that the youngster was with his mother at the dealership hours before, but while she was inside filling out paperwork, he was seen running around the lot and managed to steal keys from two vehicles.

Later that night he returned with an older man to steal the cars for himself.

CCTV shows him running shirtless unlocking one SUV and trying to start it up.

Moore’s accomplice also climbs into a car and attempts to drive away in his SUV.

But staff at the dealership were ahead of them both after realizing that the keys to the cars were missing.

Fearing they had been stolen, staff ended up deactivating the vehicles.

It’s believed the boy sold the key fob for the second car to someone else, while a third person is thought to have driven the pair of them to the lot.

The 10-year-old  is already known to police after he was seen on tape last summer stealing cars from a different parking lot.

On that occasion he was caught and charged with several other thefts but was just given probation.

At the time, his mother admitted to police that he was a problem child and difficult to control.

The boy, whom Daytona Beach Police described as ‘flashy,’ was caught cutting off his ankle monitor less than six hours after it was placed on him and meeting up with other teenagers to steal a car.

Speaking last year when the boy was caught, Daytona Beach Police Sgt. Tim Ehrenkaufer told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that investigators have noticed a brashness that’s not common in children that young.

‘He has a look-at-me attitude,’ Ehrenkaufer said. ‘He’s flashy.’

Capt. Jennifer Krosschell said the boy looks his age despite his brash behavior.

‘He even looks like a 10-year-old,’ Krosschell said. ‘When we [seized] the car he had stolen, the driver’s seat was pushed up to the steering wheel.’

The last time the child was caught Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri told the News-Journal that he believed the child ‘could be saved.’

‘He has a chance to change,’ Capri said, adding that the police department was working with the boy’s family, hopefully to get him involved with sports or a youth program.

So far it appears all efforts to help the problem child have failed.
