Hundreds have been left stranded at Sydney Airport after a technical issue caused flight delays before dawn on Friday.

Pictures show hoards of passengers milling around the entrance to Terminal 2 about five am, with many reporting they were unable to even pass through the security screening.

The issue has reportedly impacted both domestic and international terminals, with commuters sharing images of closed off roller doors at the screening checkpoint and some claiming the security cameras were not operational.

Sydney Airport released a statement about six am, blaming ‘technical issues’ at T1 and T2, which were causing interruptions to passenger processing and delays.

‘We’re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and thank you for your patience. We’re advising passengers and visitors to avoid T1 and T2 until further notice,’ the statement read.

The airport is yet to estimate when the issue will be resolved.

A spokeswoman for Qantas told Daily Mail Australia terminal 3 had not been affected, and flights were running as normal.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Sydney Airport for further comment.

More to come.
