Despite it being her first steps back on court in a singles match in nearly 14 months, she gave a stellar performance dressed in a black Nike sports dress.

She took to Instagram to gush about her big moment saying: ‘It’s official. My comeback is here. This Thursday I will start playing tennis again professionally for the first time since giving birth to my daughter.’

‘This whole month I am playing tournaments in California and Florida- both my home states. Thursday, the day I play my very first match, marks international women’s day. My comeback could not have come on a better day,’ she added.

Her last time she picked up her racket on a public court was when she took home glory at the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant.

Mixing 27 unforced errors with 34 winners, it was far from easy for the unseeded Williams on the slow hardcourt in Indian Wells.

During the match Williams took a deep breathe before unleashing a powerful second serve that saw Diyas reach high to return, but miss the ball.

Williams screamed and clenched her first in the match.

Most of her big points were made in the second set.

Her husband Reddit-founder Alexis Ohanian was there in the stands to cheer her on.

This was the new mother’s first time back in the tennis court office since giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia on September 1.

Her pregnancy saw several compilations including post-birth blood clots in her lungs, that almost proved fatal.

But the health scare couldn’t have seemed further from the tennis’ pro’s fervor on the court.

However she skipped this year’s Australian Open because she did not consider herself ready for the tournament.
