According to Shaanxi Metropolitan Post, Mr Ma was using a rusty disc cutter to fix a sink in a pigsty in Qingyang of Gansu Province on March 4.

The machine broke and a running blade came off when he was cutting an iron bucket and the fan-shaped blade hit onto his face.

It was said Mr Ma did not put on any protective gear.

‘The wound is very deep, all the way from lower lip to the forehead,’ said Mr Ma’s son.

His father fainted and was taken to The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University immediately.

Doctors found cuts on Mr Ma’s lips, nose and forehead.

One neuro-surgeon explained to the reporter: ‘The blade has lodged very deep in the forehead. We have to be very careful not to damage his eyes and the surrounding blood vessels.’

Over 10 surgeons joined forced to perform a seven-hour surgery on Mr Ma but they had to monitor him closely.

‘We have to monitor the patient’s condition whether the patient will have any infections in the head because there might have some flakes of rusts remained inside,’ said one doctor.
