Victoria Station reopens after ‘security alert’

  • Victoria station has reopened following a ‘security alert’ earlier this evening 
  • Police rushed to the scene in central London and the station was closed 
  • Officers have confirmed the incident has been stood down following the scare

A security alert which caused a London railway station to be evacuated has been stood down.

The Met Police and British Transport Police rushed to the scene at Victoria Station, central London, earlier this evening. 

Commuters were instructed to leave the station following the scare but it has since reopened.

Pictures and videos tweeted by witnesses show passengers being evacuated from the rail station during the rush hour commute.

Holidaymakers making their way to Gatwick Airport have been told to expect disruption until 8pm.

Police have now confirmed the incident has concluded. 

However disruption is expected across Southern, Southeastern and Gatwick Express services.

Southern Rail said on Twitter that some services running to and from the main railway station could be cancelled or delayed.  

Holidaymakers making their way to Gatwick Airport have been told to expect disruption until 8pm.

London Underground confirmed it will accept overground tickets between Victoria and Brixton.
