Ansons Bay boat trip tragedy claims lives of two men

  • Two men have tragically died in a boating incident at Ansons Bay in Tasmania
  • The men were in their 60’s and reportedly well known visitors to the community
  • A third man in the boat swam to the shore and alerted the emergency services 

Two men have tragically died when their boat overturned at Ansons Bay in northeastern Tasmania.

The men – from Launceston and aged in their 60s – were well-known to the local community.

A third man was able to swim ashore and raise the alarm on Saturday afternoon, The Mercury reported. 

Ansons Bay is an isolated fishing community on the north-east coast of Tasmania with a population less than 50 (stock image) 

Tasmania Police said a third man was able to swim ashore on Saturday afternoon and is helping police determine what happened.

Emergency services were contacted at 5pm by members of the public and both bodies were retrieved. 

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
